DRAFT 2024 NEP 6th Round Pick - Joe Milton

If our #3 looks good, he will be the #2 in 2025. If he doesn't look good, we will need to extend Brissette or to sign someone else as a backup.

In theory that could be Milton, Rourke or Zappe. Of course, I do agree with others that the drafting of Milton should mean the Zappe will be gone soon (hopefully in the next month).
Yep. Maye is our guy. My whole argument is that we would probably be more likely to throw Milton out there behind this questionable/young/improving OL this year than Maye. If Milton would show he is capable of playing a bit, try and get a little for him. Just my brain a churning. 0.5% it actually happens

I know he said he’s not switching positions, but he had 6 years in college and still hasn’t figured things out. I hope he at least considers a Taysom Hill role.

Anybody remember the last QB we Drafted is the 6th Round?? My memory is not like it use to be don't sleep on Milton.

Ras??? Ras?? I think you're going to change your tune of him.
I actually don’t mind the pick. He’s got a cannon so there’s tools to work with. 6-7th round feels right. I just didn’t want to see us reach in the 3-4 area.

so, you want Maye to be the #2, having to come in there is any injury to Brissette.
I would make Maye the #2 only on select* gamedays just for the purpose of letting him take some snaps in garbage time to get a feel for pro game timing, stadiums, etc.

*select: Has to be vs teams you think you can get 14 up on. Not sure who that is.

I wouldn’t mind Rourke being the regular #2. he has cfl & nfl experience.

Regardless; it is going to be a lot like the OL situation; guys are going to show something in TC and roles-functions will be fluid til the coaches make evidence-based decision.

I remember a nickname a former NFL QB had. I don’t remember the QB but I remember the nickname “scud”.

If you recall a scud missive is powerful, but JUST a bit inaccurate.
Wow Scud... haven't heard that in a looong ash time.

I don't think anyone thinks running is more important than quick processing, manipulating a pocket, layering passes etc but the position has changed/evolved. And rushing absolutely matters. I mean look at the QBs we just draft. Downplaying is ignoring the obvious.

You won't be a good qb bc you're a great rushing/scrambling threat but it's bc the norm for the new generation. So not wanting one on your team is only hurting your chances. There's definitely room for "traditional" types but they're few and far between. Again just look at this class. Williams, Daniels, Maye - all big time rushing/ scrambling threats. Huge parts of their game. Again it's a different position. Have to change with the times or you'll become irrelevant.
No you are ignoring my point. The athletism including ability to run is supposed to be the cherry on top. When somebody talks about a QB and all they say is how fast or how strong an arm they have but say nothing about decision making, accuracy, poise - you know the stuff the QB needs to actually be a good QB - then it's a red flag for me.

Both our QBs are described as athletic and yet nothing mentioned about the basics the QB needs to succeed and that worries me.

Kudos to Jordy McElroy in mid March who had a mock with Maye in the 1st and Milton in the 6th. I think a few days later MMorse had one with JDan in the 1st and JMilt in the 7th. McElroy originally had a mock where Milton was the only QB the Pats took, and it was in the 6th.

Yes, but that really only tells you something about the OBSERVER

Says little about the OBSERVED; he could be all that or nothing.

He had a better year than Maye statistically, against tougher defenses. Let's see if he can figure some things out.
