DRAFT 2024 NEP 3RD Overall Pick - DRAKE MAYE

Agreed. As Mac had played just as well as cam did that camp. Cam actually had a great camp and was the starter. When he went on the hiatus is what untilmately allowed the team to go with Mac instead. I'll say this.. is maye is ready and convinces the coaching staff that he can lead this team then allow him to start. We have Brissett there as a great mentor for maye.
Oh yeeaahh that's right that f'ing drama. Thanks for the reminder.

What?
He goes thru 2 and 3 reads regularly, where do you get he is slow, he more often goes thru the reads too quickly than too slowly.
He doesn't have accuracy issues, where do you get that from? Every advanced stat he has high accuracy, the tape shows high accuracy. It's just not true.

His footwork is not bad, his footwork is inconsistent, for every throw like the one BB highlighted his footwork there are 10 throws his footwork is excellent. He had a bad line, he had a strong arm, he let his footwork get away, sometimes, I don't think people understand that it is consistency of his footwork not that he has some natural flaw in his footwork that he always does on every play.

He looks off coverage in many, many plays on tape.

Nate Tice is a very good QB evaluator, he addresses much of this here:

Clearly you are not watching 2023 film! Having a bad offensive line, is not a viable excuse for dancing in the pocket, forcing throws or missing receivers.

Everyone agrees this is the player we had to take at #3. It’s graded an A.

But I suspect not having a franchise LT is going to hurt the team for the foreseeable future. That’s why a minor reach for a LT in the second round was a priority for me. WR is another priority and I love Polk.

But time will tell if this was the best approach.

Cam makes him look small. I kind of like the fact the Maye is a bit scrawny while still weighing about 225. I read in an interview where he said that he doesn’t bench press or do heavy weight lifting. That’s not unusual for a qb as they don’t want to put stress on their rotator cuffs. But he could easily put on another ten pounds of muscle as he is only 21. He puts on another ten pounds and he’s a beast.

All the legit left tackles were taken in the first round (8 of them). Maye isn’t going to play much next year. We’ll likely have a losing record again and should address that next draft or in free agency next year and we’ll have a lot of cap space again. This is a bridge year.

Imho, Drake's probably fine weight wise. TB12 is the same exact height and weight (not at the Combine obv when he was 211lbs). I'm all for stronger ligaments, tendons, and bones.

Drake Maye being lectured on Oxfords, not Brogues

You are crazy if you think he did that in 2023 on any regular basis.
He was better in 2023 than he was in 2022. He improved his touch and he went from just running to keeping his head up when scrambling.
Being the only player on your team, requires way more risk taking. He had 2 players from UNC drafted, both in 4th round, the receiver drafted is a crap receiver, will be out of league in 3 years.
He did not just have a below average line, he had a bad coordinator and bad receivers coupled with a well below average defense.
Mahomes is the last guy to do so much with so little in college.

I've watched every single play of Maye and Williams and Daniels and then many plays of the other QB's.
Maye is a S-T-U-D and future superstar. I have little doubt.

He's the best QB in the draft.

I've put it out there. I've listed every college QB from this draft and what I expect their career to be. In 3 years, we can revisit. Anyone else wants to put it out there, please do, love to see who ends up being right.

The drooling over Maye in training camp is going to get obnoxious around here, you might want to take August off.

I love the Maye pick and glad they stood their ground and did not trade the pick. He is only 21. With solid coaching and good weapons he has unlimited potential.
I do think it will take 2-3 years to get the O- line rebuilt and get the weapons.
I do not think the Oline picks will move the needle. For next years draft they should focus on getting a stud OT and guard. That will put the rebuild back on track

Here's a take:
If they really start the best player, Maye will start week 1.

So will be curious what they do, the evidence is non-existent that you can "ruin a QB" by playing them early, even having a bad first year has been shown to be the best way for the top tier, cream of the crop QB prospects to gain experience.

Sumer Sports did a statistical analysis on QB's post 2011 CBA, of course sample size is small but their conclusion makes complete sense and I've looked up numerous websites that discuss and analyze this so this is not the only one with this conclusion:

  • Teams that attempt to sit their quarterbacks in year one are better than the teams that don’t, and the teams that can actually sit him the whole season are the best teams of all.
  • Draft position correlates with initial team strength, whether or not a player plays in year one, and how well he performs at the NFL level, which makes statistical significance difficult to achieve.
  • Among players that are thrown into the fire in year one, the highly drafted players playing on poor teams perform the best.
  • Among players that were not supposed to start in year one but eventually have to play, team strength positively influences the quarterback’s future performance.
  • There is no statistical evidence that sitting a quarterback in year one, or trying to sit a quarterback in year one, positively impacts his career, even after adjusting for initial conditions, in today’s roster-building environment of the 2011/2020 CBA.

2 years in a row they've sprung for the private jet. Take that RKK is Cheapers!

Agreed. Hopefully Anderson can hold down the LT position for this year and we draft a LT in R1 in 2025. Should have a decent OL in 2025 and forward.

I’m hoping that Maye sits like Mahomes did. We probably aren’t going to make the playoffs, so let him maybe start the last 2 or 3 games. But learning is the best way in my opinion.

That being said, as Mayo said, the best players will play, so it’s really in Maye’s hands. If he kills it in camp and outplays Brissett, then Mayo should be a man of his words and Maye starts as QB 1. It should be interesting.
