DRAFT 2024 7th Round Pick - TE Jaheim Bell

Except his blocking isn't great unless it's in space.

Yep... If they wanted a blocking TE then they would've taken somebody like Brevyn Spann-Ford... They obviously envision Bell having the ball in his hands more often than that.

If some of his metrics from college travel with him to the NFL, then I wonder how his game could complement that of Antonio Gibson... or would it be in competition with it?

Bell's definitely making the team, BTW, there's no doubt in my mind about it.
Should HH be concerned? LOL

To your first statement Brock Purdy says hi.
Key word in that statement is "generally".

Look, I'd love if Bell is a stud. Of course. But I'm just saying that if he can come in and learn to contribute in the kicking game, learn to block well enough to be someone that "un-needs" keeping a designated full back on the roster, and just be a package player who gives you 1-2 designed touches per game... then he'll carve out a nice career for himself and be a really good 7th round pick for us. That's not as flashy and sexy as him developing into a starting, every down TE, but it's probably a more realistic/practical outcome.

If that's true, then I really, Really, REALLY don't like that pick.

The Bell pick, OTOH, looks better for it.
They seem not to like the fact that Zappe wants to be a starter in the NFL

This is what the pick was all about.

But if you wanted a #3, maybe don't pick the guy with the strongest arm since Jamarcus Russell and the athletic capabilities of Cam Newton. Because I guarantee you, this person with the best abilities in a generation is going to want to start.

I think the fans make a bigger thing out of Zappe wanting to start than the team does. I think it's more that Zappe showed he's not good enough to do more than beat out a mentally broken Mac Jones.

Bell is going to be a pass catcher in the mode of the Criminal nuff said!

I judge Zappe to be better than half the #3s in the NFL. Some of them are really bad. Ever see the Jets' QB Boyle play?

Makes defenders miss and picks up yac like we haven't seen in a long time. Don't ignore the obvious here.
He's a big running back that if you're creative and again don't ignore the obvious. Should be a decent option in that role. Tore acl in hs. He actually started off at rb before expanding his role to defense (lb) and then te and wr. You can occasionally use him in the run game. He had a couple hundred yards rushing a few years back. Like 5 rushing tds.
He runs a great seam and comeback. Knows how lose defenders at the top of his route. Very nice stem/winning with leverage late. Plus acceleration and vision. He's a menace with the ball in his hands. On film and #'s like the ones below highlight his gifts.
Actually a decent blocker for who he is. Won't ever be a killer inline but he'll absolutely do a good job in space.
So, is he more a 3rd down RB?

I get the impression they want a whole new QB room. It'll be interesting to see if @Ian's guy even makes the roster.

Not sure who the criminal is.

I think on his high end, he could be a Jonnu Smith type of player. That will get shot down by people on here because he was a bust of a FA signing for what we paid him, but he's a good player. That'd be a great outcome for a 7th rounder.

If anyone has cause for concern it might be Gibson, though his recently-signed contract here does offer security...
I don't think Gibson has much to be concerned about. He's been a decent player already. Even in a world where Bell learns an entirely new position in his first year in the NFL and excels immediately as a pass catching back, then Gibson is still far and away the 3rd best RB on the roster which puts him in fine position to make the team and play a lot.

Lol... the only concerned people will be are DCs because by week 5 they will know fully who Gibson is.. a 6"2 ' physical runner, who being a former WR can line up out wide, in the slot, catch out the backfield, do it all. He has excellent hands. He and rham are going to be a force to be reckoned.. he's the best FA signing no one's talking about. For this offense he's a welcome addition.

Not really; at least not in the same way that Faulk, Woody, Sugar, Dion Lewis & SweetFeet were used here.
Bigger back, more crafty, can line up all over the field, pretty durable.. wich as great as lewis was for us.. he was always hurt.. due to his size and the punishment he took. Let's also not forget who was throwing to those great patriots backs.. Gibson will be a welcome sight for sore patriots fans eyes.. from what we had to witness last 2 seasons.

Can someone explain that chart as if it was to someone who failed sophomore Geometry.
Nearly 40% of the time he has a reception he forces someone to miss a tackle.

And he averages over 9 yards after the catch for each reception.

Both those numbers are far-and-away the best in the P5.

Yup. They already have Wilcox, a potential blocking TE.
