2022 Patriots Roster Cut Down Day Thread

Zero elite talent
Truthfully, I'm finding it difficult to be optimistic about the post-Brady Belichick years given what Bill has done in the draft, during roster construction and filling out his coaching staff (which is showing a penchant for nepotism). Perhaps I'll be pleasantly surprised but as it stands, I feel stranded on melancholy island.

Not really esp. when Montgomery and Thornton return.

compared to last season:
core ST lost - Bethel, King, Bolden (Langi)
core ST gained - Schooler, D.Mitchell, Montgomery, Peppers + Thornton + Jon Jones + Jennings

Bethel was quiet this preseason so its not a surprise. On the other hand Cody Davis was a monster, Schooler, Mitchell really shined and Thornton was unstoppable as gunner (one of Bethels jobs)..
I’m just ribbin’ MG.

It looks to me like there are at least a couple of claims coming.
At least Anderson, Mitchell, Folk and Cardona, right? Oh wait.

After the Brady years, its been a bigger adjustment than I thought it would be.
I think most on this board would agree that there is a lack of high end talent on the roster. BB needs to take accountability for the lack of elite talent.

Barmore says hi.
He's good but would you place the franchise tag on him? He's shown promise but unproven... He's good at the rush but needs to prove himself in the run game... No team would trade multiple first rounders for him... That's elite talent

You are correct the roster sucks. First rounders are few and far

Personally, I think it's time for this board to stop looking in the rear view mirror all the time.

Personally, I'm intrigued by the current team building process, and expect this year to have some pretty ugly moments, especially early on as the team struggles to get its act together.

Personally, I can't see how a fan can push for "accountability" -- what's next after that, a personal apology?

It's not like BB doesn't get roasted here and in the media, several mediots make a living doing just that.

We are looking at a Donald type of talent and he’s only going to get better.
His ceiling is Donald his floor is himself.
I think teams would trade over a first for that.

Zero elite talent
What does “elite talent” mean to you? Do tell. If you are so down on them, don’t watch. The team won’t miss you as a “fan”. Neither will this site.

Agree about Wilkerson - probably will settle as soon as he clears the protocol. Settlements are based on how long a player is expected to be out - and this injury is different than a hammy or something, where you can’t really predict how long it will take.

It's kinda unusual for a football concussion to go this long unless it's REALLY serious. I don't think they'd have IRed him if they thought he'd be back within a couple more weeks. As it is, even if they give him an injury settlement at the end of the week, that means he can't re-sign with them until after week 4. Which is 6 weeks away.

So Wilkerson went on IR?? meaning he's out for the year?? That's frustrating. I'd think that Nixon might be the first backup on the PS
Wilkerson can be given an injury settlement at the end of the week. The problem is that it would still mean he can't re-sign with the Pats until after week 4. Which is 6 weeks away.

Just one nit - Wilkerson was placed on IR today, so he won’t be a designated to return guy. Otherwise agree with your point.
I wrote that message prior to seeing that Wilkerson had been IRed.

What's wrong with Cajuste? And I didn't hear Durant is gone, so did they cut more than they had to? Maybe we'll bring in a FA cut at OL. I'm sure feeling uneasy about Brown & Wynn with only Herron as the healthy backup at T for week 1!

No. They didn't cut more than they had to. Go look at Mike Reiss' tweet. Durant is listed in the first tweet, second line.
Cajuste was injured during the Raiders game. And talk was that he would likely end up going to the IR.

I want these guys back on the team in some capacity: Hambright, K. Harris, Humphrey, McGrone, Nixon, Ray, Russey, Sherman, Vizcaino.

New England Patriots: Waived or released tight end Devin Asiasi, defensive back Justin Bethel, offensive lineman Drew Desjarlais, offensive lineman Yasir Durant, offensive lineman James Ferentz, offensive lineman Arlington Hambright, wide receiver Josh Hammond, running back Kevin Harris, defensive back Brad Hawkins, wide receiver Lil'Jordan Humphrey, linebacker Harvey Langi, linebacker Cameron McGrone, cornerback Terrance Mitchell, offensive lineman Bill Murray, wide receiver Tre Nixon, defensive lineman Jeremiah Pharms Jr., defensive lineman LaBryan Ray, offensive lineman Kody Russey, offensive lineman Will Sherman, tight end Matt Sokol, running back J.J. Taylor, kicker Tristan Vizcaino, linebacker Nate Wieland, and tight end Jalen Wydermyer. Placed defensive lineman Henry Anderson and wide receiver Kristian Wilkerson on injured reserve.
