2022 Free Agent Receivers - Will the Patriots Target One?

Berrios should be our focus in FA WR. Spotrac projects his market to be around 4yr/$23M. If that's the case, then it's a done deal.
Berrios would give us what we've needed. And with Meyers, and Bourne & Agholor & Mac in their 2nd year, this is a very winnable WR corp. Then, whatever they draft - whether a Bolden (Ala) or Robinson (Ky) - they have time to train him up by the time Agholor leaves after next year. No rookie WR will ever work in Foxboro, so plan ahead. Get Berrios who began here, and is exactly what we need to fill the JE11 role.

Personally, I would rather have Jamison Crowder. Berrios is a great special teamer, but I think people overrate his play at WR. Crowder is a far better receiver who was underused last year because Zach Wilson refused to do quick checkdowns when his receiver wasn't open and would constantly try for the home run even when the play wasn't there.

Is there any chance we'd go for Clowney? He's been on a string of 1-year deals, but showed his potential opposite Garrett.
Would BB give him a 2 or 3 year deal for relative cheap money, and finally have the Willie Mac he's been looking for since 2008?
Clowney opposite Judon could be great for a few years. With Barmore and another new stud in the middle.

Yeesh. The guy's a 300 yard/year receiver. 4.23 is richer than Bourne.

Adam Humphries is only 2 years older, better, and will likely be cheaper than that.

I like Crowder... seems like a lot of decent available guys.

50: we can thank thank the Jets for developing him Berrios can only go up from here I like.

Yeah I thought that seemed a little high for Berrios too...

So, you're saying that the team you should build their roster as if they are going with a traditional 21 series base, (multi-WR sets) and not 12 series multi-TE sets.
Claiming that "no rookie WR will ever work in Foxboro" seems like an over-statement since the Patriots have had rookies WRs who have been integral to the passing game. (Branch, Mitchell).

Help me understand how you think that either Bolden or Robinson (primarily slot guys) are replacements for Agholor.

In fact, you've got the Patriots adding 2 slot guys in addition to keeping Meyers. It just doesn't make sense.

I agree on everything except Meyers. If the Raiders would take Harry and Agholor (with his salary) off the Patriots hand for a draft choice or two, that would be addition by subtraction.

I'd keep Meyers and Bourne, find a mid-level free agent wideout like Conley or Smith-Schuster, and like you said. feature Henry and Smith in the passing game. James White coming back could be enormous for Mac Jones who developed a surprisingly good rhythm with Brandon Bolden.

Here's the broken record part of my 2022 posts, go all in on an OL in the first round and use the rest of the draft on defense. The bar is low for me in 2022. If the Patriots force the Bills to punt just once, the season is a smashing success!
i believe the best OTs will be well taken before 21.

we should stick on at 21 if stingley/ gardner / mcduffie/booth are there at 21, else swap picks with lions and get devontae wyatt at 21 and possibly kyler gordon/elam . and with 3rd round and fourth round just double dip on WR- john metchie ( high risk high reward) and possibly a slot ( austin or slade). I am hoping one among sherman / cajuste / herron pan out and we are able to sign both T brown and karras while trading wynn.

we badly need a second rounder from JC jackson tag and trade. i might be in minority but i dont want us draft a linebacker in this draft.

Stingley and Gardner will be gone long before 21. Gardner could go Top 5.

I'm gonna be honest.. I don't want to touch Metchie. or Williams for that matter. Let other teams use the pick on a kid recovering from an ACL.
WR isn't a need unless they trade Agholor and/or Meyers away.

Like a few others, you're advocating "double-dipping" at WR when the Patriots want to run a 12 Set as their base. It doesn't make sense to me.

Karras and Brown were both inconsistent last year. Karras petered out when we needed him the most down the stretch. Trent Brown let himself get over-weight while he was injured and was not the same player at RT that he was during the pre-season.

You say that you don't want the Patriots to draft a LB. So you're ok with just McMillan, McGrone, and Jennings at LB?

If they have spent so much draft capital on LB and still can't find one among 4 it gives me less confidence what they can do this year . I would much rather allow them to roll in with these folks get them gain experience and maybe 1 or 2 of them shine . Bring back Bentley and maybe a veteran LB at discount ( 28-29 years ).

I believe we need a slot receiver . So don't mind double dipping wide receiver in late 2nd round and early 3rd round . We have spent 3rd round picks on asiasi,Keene and a bunch of linebackers. Let them spend it on WR this time. Who knows we might find our deebo Samuels .

Agholor and Meyers might be gone next season , so better to develop the next set of wide receivers who can take over next year . This year is going to be a reset year and I think we should just use it for evaluating and forming the core team around Mac . OL for now seems to be fine and is a relative strength compared to defense .

Like your post but just don't like the Bentley part it's no mystery around here Bentley sucks and Winno too. I wouldn't mind a guy with some upside in FA at LB. Or with a extra Second Rounder it would be like a luxury pick for a player with potential at LB or CB.

Supposedly they are meeting with most first round receivers who will be in their range

Just hope they changed the scouting that got us Harry instead of deebo, Metcalf, aj brown etc.

It's yet to be seen if we can effectively use the 12 or 02 packages - based on Smith's failure. We ran much more 11 and 21, and with that, I think what is missing is the short "automatic" 5-10yd completions. "Slot WR" is way overused IMO. Calling Meyers and Bourne slot guys is only based on previous usage in alignment. They're not best served in the Pats-Slot mold, I think we all know that. Can they run those routes? Of course, but are they as efficient as the smaller quicker guys? Of course not. Meyers is what used to be called a "possession receiver", and he's good at it, and should be a mainstay. Bourne can be an OBJ kind of guy. But Agholor is NOT Kupp, at best he can be a Hogan. What we need is the Amendola, and I'm saying Berrios is that. In 3-WR sets, it could be Meyers/Berrios/Bourne. Agholor is a 4th WR - and an expensive one - which is why I don't see him staying more than '22 (not surprised if they actually move him before this season)

Agree. Considering our cap space and the fact that HT is retiring and van Noy not being back, felt we needed somebody who understood the schemes. So Bentley is a cheaper option, though not the best one . I am hoping if we get mcgrone and uche to play to their strengths then Bentley could be a huge upgrade considering sum of parts . If we get an additional draft pick from JC we can potentially use that on LB like Harris. We need 5 picks within 100 and that can be achieved only by trading down. We really need the second rounder from JC trade else we need to tag JC .

Priority 1 - CB
2 - nose tackle
3 - mid round wide receivers
4 - line backers / OT.

Our draft picks prior to 2021 are haunting us now and the cap space provided to agholor and Jonnu leaves no room to grow further . So considering that I think we cannot do WR high in draft or in free agency. Since this class is deep we should take a shot at skyy Moore and Austin.

They've also interviewed those who might still be available into the 3rd round such as Metchie, Kyle Phillips, WanDale Robinson too I believe...

I would also add an on-the-line Defensive End (6'3-plus, 260-275) with pass-rushing chops to Priority #4... We have Nobody there to complement Judon.
