Kyle Rudolph would make a ton of sense on this team. Solid veteran who can play and won't stand in the way of the young TEs to develop. I was hoping we target someone higher caliber, but if Jonnu and Henry both get tagged and we can't get Pitts in the draft, Rudolph is probably as good as we are going to get.

I dont think his stats last season were that good so why take a player possibly on the way down ? No doubt about his record or experience. I would prefer someone like Jonnu Smith

Here's a posting that might interest some of you:

If David Njoku wants out of Cleveland, the Browns might have the perfect solution.

Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph, who spent nine seasons with Kevin Stefanski in Minnesota, was released Tuesday after 10 seasons with the club, but wants to continue playing for years, a source told cleveland.com.

What’s more, he’d love to play for Stefanski, with whom he was close in Minnesota, the source said.

He doesn't want to block. Wants to get more targets. That won't work for Bill. I doubt he wants to come here anyway.

"That doesn't mean that I'm used to my potential and I'm used to do what I do well, so it will be interesting over the next few months. Like I said, I have three years left on my contract. I don't want to go anywhere else. I've somehow become a pretty decent blocker because I've been forced to. It certainly wasn't something that I ever did well at any point of my career. Maybe in high school because I was bigger than everyone else, but even then, I just wanted to run around and catch balls."

Rudolph doesn't feel like what we need right now. We need to find an established number 1 TE whereas Rudolph is on the downslide and in the last few years of his career. His best years are behind him.

Speaking Tuesday, Bears GM Ryan Pace admitted impending free agent Allen Robinson could be franchise tagged.

“We have a ton of respect for Allen,” Pace claimed. “We have to do what’s best for the Bears too. We consider everything. ... No firm decision on that yet, but we know we have it at our disposal. We want to keep our good players and Allen is a good player for us.” Long frustrated better long-term offers have not been forthcoming, Robinson has unsurprisingly seemed unenthused about the prospect of the tag. It is possible the Bears could be planning on a tag-and-trade, but their M.O. is generally to go for it. They have one more week to mull the tag.

Rudolph is going to be 32 this year. In 12 - 2020 starts he disappeared alot if you ask me.

Njoku is 25 this year. In 5 - 2020 starts and 29 targets, he was not far off from Rudolph's production.

This is blatantly agent-driven and agents aren't really in the business of ruling out possible bidders, but it's something.

Don't think Kyle Pitts is going to get very far. There are rumors that the Fins are interested in taking him at 3. He's going to be loooong gone by the time the Pats pick.

The pats have a chance to sign 2-3 impact FAs & then a handful of Van Noy types when the dust settles.
Feels like it could be more than 2-3 impact guys if there are a ton of impact players available after cuts flooding the market and it depresses their value.

As much as NE needs to improve at WR, I feel like teams will be keeping their impact WRs as much as possible and be cutting elsewhere (probably a lot of defensive cuts). It may be more sensible to target WR in the draft and just try to sign as many good players as possible in FA regardless of position, to an extent.

Bingo.

Kyle Rudolf is EXACTLY the TE we need here to show AssyAssy & Keene what's expected of them, from both an on-field AND a classroom & weight-room perspective...He'll do the dirty, thankless work too.

Sign The Beast, Bill.

UPDATE: I am also good with spending a late Day 3 pick in the following scenario:

I don't think his issue is he doesn't want to block at all. He most likely doesn't want to only block and never catch any passes. We do have a ton of targets that are available at the TE position for him if he signs here. It's not like any of the other TEs on this team has done a damned thing for the last three years. He might not love to block, but he is at least capable. As long as he gets targets, I am sure BB can get him to block too.

If that. Hurt last year. Stats plummeted. Wondering how much he has left in the tank. I'd rather have Njoku or Henry.
I get that Njoku is younger, but hasn't he been injured the last two years? Question his durability, especially as young as he is.

I read it that way as well. I think he would be a good signing. 2 to 3 year deal for a few mil a year would be nice. Then hope the rookies develop and maybe you can get something out of LaCosse. More $ available for other holes.

Idk that Watt contract for a 30+ yo with an injury history makes me wonder how many bargains or the extent of the bargains. I'll believe it when I see it. Can't wait.

I'm not very interested in Rudolph, would rather the team invest in a younger guy who will be a part of the future. Would love to see Jonnu Smith (age 25) here if he doesn't get tagged. If not, maybe someone like Everett (age 26).
