Looking ahead to the 2020 draft.

On offense - the o line looks set even if Thuney leaves. The running backs look set. Tight end, wide receiver and qb need attention.

On defense - the cornerback position looks set. Everywhere else needs attention.

I agree. QB, WR, TE should be the main focus again. DT, LB and S as well but I deem the first 3 as more important.

If I had more time to devote to this hobby on the weekends, this looks very tempting. I could submit threads like this as part of my resume, I suppose, but I don't really have enough football knowledge or experience. What a cool opportunity, though!

We always lament that our linebackers are vulnerable against the pass, but the fact of the matter is that it's always a mismatch to throw at a linebacker. Keep that in mind as we prep for the daft in 2020. Even the best coverage 'backer in the world is generally inferior to a defensive back.

Also, how in the world does Leonard get so many accolades? He had some nice stats, but he gave up the most yards of any of these players. Overrated. Will fall back to earth.

Yeah, I was a little surprised when Leonard was picked by the Clots early in the 2nd round; I had him pegged as more of an early/mid-3rd guy.

Also of note is Zach Brown's relatively good rating compared to most of the others. Bill could've signed him here for cheap a couple of times, but now I'm in a better place regarding our own LBs. Who knows, maybe Jaime Collins has learned to defend the Wheel route better during his absence? I also am not giving up yet on Christian Sam, and coverage is supposedly one of Terez Hall's better qualities.

Obviously not all of these players are daft-eligible, but this list should provide a good introduction to how insanely deep the upcoming receiver classes (2019 and 2020) will be.

This doesn't take into account play action passes, but it's interesting nonetheless. I know it's not quite on the topic of draft review and a look forward to the 2019 draft, but this thread is turning into my own little space, so there you have it.

I usually prefer my QB to play under center except in obvious passing situations, or if the protection isn't doing its job well enough. The play-action possibilities, especially in a Tom Brady offense, are endless.

That's the talk that's heard on the practice field, in the classroom & in the locker room; a far cry from the comedy that passes as anal-ysis most of the time.

Sure wish that we could've signed Hicks to that 2-year/$10M bridge contract he signed in Chicago; we could've used him, especially in 2017.

We have a lot of draft picks next year. I wouldn't mind taking a shot at Simms with one of our 6ths (I think we have 3 or 4). As many of our members know, I was a big fan of the WVU offense this year because of similarities to the Patriots scheme. Simms was a clear third option behind Jennings and Sills, but he displayed decent routes, nice hands, and solid YAC ability. He reminds me a bit of Dorsett, who showed better skills than his stats indicate over the last year.

When those plays - both running & passing - work the way they worked many times last season, it is as close to a thing of football beauty as it gets; a near-perfect blend of both coaching & talent, with enough actual on-field talent - obviously at the QB, TE & Slot WR positions, where it has been HOF-caliber - who can take advantage of the century(!)-long experience that Bill, Dante & McD bring, including he who has now become the proper heir to the Decepticon Back title, James White. His first 2 seasons here were nothing about which to write home, but the next 3 seasons have been nothing at which to sniff either...and having Dion Lewis and now Sony Michel hasn't hurt.
