2019 Cap set around $190M

There could be a lot of overpaid players this off season.

Glad Bill will have the room to extend some more special teamers.

Weird season to make a joke about not needing well paid special teamers

Mind you, you could field an entire high end unit with the money flushed down the drain on useless players like Clayborn and Shelton

Pats will have 20M to play with and no LT, no starting caliber DT, their best DL (by a mile) unsigned, and a number of other holes without internal replacement options

Can’t see any way they field a top 5-7 roster without aggressive changes. Certainly doable but Belichick and Caserio need to make some tough moves with their current guys and have a good year in the mid tier veteran FA market.

There should be some positive changes in the months of March and April. We’ve got some nice draft capital and a few bucks to play around with in free agency. Time to cut the losses and move forward with some better talent and better deals.

Give that 20 M to Flowers and you're not in terrible shape. Probably going to have go DT high in the draft again. You got Wynn for LT possibily. That's before any restructures.

Realistically even if Flowers got 20 aav it would be less year 1. So hopefully we can resign him and still get a few things. Then restructures can get us in season money.

SBB, are you honestly entertaining the idea of giving Trey Flowers 20m dollars AAV? I think something in the 12-14m dollar range is much more appropriate. That’s the kind of money you pay to elite game-changing defenders. Flowers is a great player to have and he makes this defense better, but he’s not worth anything close to that kind of payday.

Common sense among hysteria... I agree completely. Many players will get "paid" to play for second tier teams, not that BB wants them to leave, but because they will be overvalued in the Pats Economic System..

We will also have a lot of restructures of contracts as well.

D-Mac
Allen
Hightower (possibly)
Cannon (possibly)

I think $12-$14M is more than reasonable and go DT with the top pick to get the run D fixed.

Dexter Lawerence is the guy we need.

Love Lawrence, but I think they would have to trade up for him if they wanted him. There are a TON of quality DTs in this draft that might be in our range. Derrick Brown, Davis (might be too tall), Wilkins, etc.

You're welcome BB

Oh god yeah. This draft is deep for the D-Line. But as we know QBs and offensive players will be drafted higher than they should, which could work in our favour.

We have plenty of cap money and draft picks to accomplish our 2019 needs; plus we have potential restructures.

The list is NOT as long as most years. IMHO, we need to start by tendering/re-signing Jones and Gordon, re-signing J McCourty, and resigning Brown. And yes, we need to re-sign/extend a top DE.

A top DE won't cost more than $8M or so for 2019 no matter what the AAV, so the cap is not really much of a constraint.
=======
And yes, the greatest need will be at NT. We have lots of options including re-signing Brown, signing a top DT, signing a mid-level DT, using a top draft choice, and using a 2nd or even 3rd draft choice. We are likely to bring in 3 DT's one way or the other.
