2017 NFL Combine Thread

A slower 10 yard split helping his twitch stat doesn't seem to make sense to me. But thanks for the explanation.

Yeah, it doesn't really make sense to me either, but I didn't make the formula.

If I had to guess the intention, I think it has to do with penalizing straight line athletes that can't stop and change direction.

For anyone curious, the formula is
Twitch = (Short Shuttle) - (10 Yard Split + 1.6)

Re Robert Davis who won the WRs yesterday.

I watched the one game there is on DB. Definitely needs refinement as a WR but the quick twitch athleticism is definitely on show.
Highlights:

nFP = Non Force Player

Highlights:

He was bothered this season with nagging minor injuries and had bad quarterback play this year.

The tape during his soph/junior was better because we had a better quarterback talent and our other talented receiver, Penny Hart, was not injured and able to stretch out the defenses.

He does need some refinement but he's further along than many realize. His WR coach was Tim Lappano, the former Lions WR coach from a few years ago.

Was just made aware that peppers is working with DB tommorow too

Daeshon Hall's spiderweb.

some interesting things in this Safety overview
Versatility, athleticism highlight safety class

Quote on John Johnson - interesting Day 3 prospect for NE

Johnson, who some project as a fifth-round pick, is obviously familiar with the Patriots after playing his college ball so close to Foxborough. But the Maryland native has another connection to the local team having Anthony Campanile as his defensive backs coach with the Eagles.

“Coach Campanile came from Rutgers so he worked with Logan Ryan and Duron Harmon,” Johnson explained. “Coach Campanile tells me I’m the best defensive back in the draft, and he’s obviously worked with a lot of the Patriots guys so that means a lot to me.”

Nice catch. Boston had Justin Simmons the year before as well, who a lot of people here also liked. Ended up having a great season in Denver.

Will be looking even closer now.

It's also pretty wild in such a stacked defensive draft, there isn't one NT who will go in the top 100.

Stevie Tu'ikolovatu is the only close to the size needed, and he tested worse than Ron Brace, which I didn't think was possible.

Also makes the drafting of Vincent Valentine last year look very smart.

Prediction for tomorrow: Witherspoon is the biggest riser after testing.

My guys:

Gareon Conley
Howard Wilson
Ahkello Witherspoon
Eddie Jackson
Rasul Douglas
Corn Elder
John Johnson
Treston DeCoud
Branden Langley

They might not be the best, but they're my favorites.

EDIT: I also like the following players, but either haven't scouted them as extensively, or don't think their value is as good as the ones I listed earlier:

Jourdan Lewis
Damontae Kazee
Marcus Williams
Obi Melifonwu (as @manxman2601 mentioned, intrigues at press corner)

The top guys: Humphrey and the Florida corners are interesting. Just don't see the value / opportunity to draft given our draft position. TreDavious White I'm lukewarm about, but some of his tape is very good (and some is terrible).

I expect Langley and Wilson to contend for the fastest of the DBs. Baker possibly. Can't wait for the drill portion. So many good players to watch.

No matter what he does in drills . this Qs will be a problem . not only on Draft day

Jabrill Peppers
  • Dane Brugler has spoken to two NFL teams this week at the Combine who view Michigan’s Jabrill Peppers as a better offensive player than a defensive player.
  • Brugler adds that he wouldn’t be a surprise if more teams agreed with these teams, as Peppers has special athletic traits and has displayed that with the ball in his hands.

I think Douglas ends up with a huge day. May not be quite enough to get in to the 1st, but he's going to look great. It's just so deep, and only so many spots available.

FWIW, I've heard that Douglas will run in the 4.6's. I think it was Dane Brugler that said it. I like your list and i'm a fan of Witherspoon and Wilson (who I think can challenge your prediction of biggest riser). One other name I'd add to biggest riser contention is Kevin King. Saw a tweet that he ran a 6.40 3-cone at the Washington combine. But his forty time will obviously matter.

And here's a link to the Husky combine. Unfortunately no forty time for King.

Husky Combine notes (updated): John Ross timed at 4.25 seconds in 40-yard dash, Budda Baker runs a 4.35 (and more)

But Budda Baker though. 4.35 forty and a 6.66 3-cone. And as they show Ross running a 4.25, those numbers might not be that far off. My love for Budda will be uncontrollable if he puts up those numbers tomorrow.

King has been on my watch list since last springs Washington test day. I remember looking up immediately what his comparables were then.

He basically tested out as a quicker Richard Sherman, and that was the only comparable.

Been waiting a long time for tomorrow.

My list of guys I am excited to see tomorrow

Melifonwu- Is he twitchy enough to play corner or deep safety on occasion with the weight added
Kevin King- doe he have inside/outside capabilities- do his hips lie?
Harvey-Clemons ( twitchy enough or long strider?)
Quincy Wilson - my CB1 during the season.
Sidney Jones- can he test out like McCourty ( my comp)
Budda baker- needs incredible numbers at his size to break through
Marcus Williams- has the prototype body and game, do the numbers add up
Lorenzo Jerome- see how he tests against the best, not div2 athletes

I'd add Josh Jones too.
