And yeah, I wanted an OT on draft day and I want one even more now. But even before the draft we were moaning that the pickings looked slim. By the point where Brissett was taken 8 OTs had already been drafted, and immediate help at the position looked unlikely regardless.

This. Aside from the first rounders, this was a tough year for OTs. All, including LeRaven Clark had serious question marks.

QB is a good investment down the road. Brissett may be raw, but he has the potential to be the best backup in the Brady era, other than Jimmy G. I think it's still early on, but Brisset has looked promising. I think he has the right stuff to be a starter in this league with some extra training.

Who would we take at OT? We could have taken Clark instead of Thuney, and then taken Thuney at Brissett's spot, I guess. I would have been fine with that. But then who is our backup QB for this season and in the future? It's not an easy choice.

Thankfully, next year looks like a solid year for OT. I already have my eyes on several players who seem to fit the Patriots prototype.

Without looking it up, I am pretty sure we picked Thuney before Brissett. It is possible Thuney would have been gone by the time we picked Brissett.

Based on the report so far, it is hard to make the case that Clark would be a better pick than Thuney.

Yes, Thuney went first. Thuney may have been gone if we had decided on another route. I don't mean to argue that Clark would be a better player right now than Thuney. That's silly. I just think he was the last OT on the board with true LT upside, although he's obviously quite raw. We'll see how his career pans out, but I know that he has already had trouble with Matt Judon (whom I wanted us to draft).

We'll see how it pans out. I'm clearly not an expert, but I was trying to present a scenario that would allow us to fill the perceived need for a long-term OT replacement.
