Well it seems J Thomas will be irrelevant for FF next year

Is Maxwell really that good?

He played on a team that had Sherman on the other side, man-upping whomever was over there, and with probably the best safety in the league leaning his way.

And on a team that built a DL to get after the passer.

I think he's average. 10+ a year for him is batshit crazy. Browner's better and we've got him for under 5/per.

Having money under the cap is all well and good, but contracts last more than a year. And for every Maxwell you're paying that kind of change, you're not developing any home-grown talent (again, I think Maxwell is average and nowhere near top-tier).

I agree that we got GREAT deals in 2014 on Browner and Revis. Lots of teams had serious questions about Browner. And even playing for us, he was a penalty machine. Not many teams change their defense so often that Browner would be so valuable.

PHI needed secondary help NOW. They were 10-6. With $45M of 2015 cap money and a serious need in the secondary, they overpaid.

BTW, I don't know how much the patriots would have offered Maxwell later this week if Revis is gone.

So, I agree that for the patriots, Browner is much better than Maxwell. However, in the 2015 market for secondary help, I suspect that Maxwell could have waited and had several teams bidding for him. I agree that PHI paid a premium for signing him now.

I am trying to tell myself how this team is in cap hell lol

They're not you idiot. They are $4m over with $20m being taken up by Revis right now because they haven't declined his option. Once they do they become $14-$15m under and there is other stuff they could do to open up more cap space.

Maxwell to the Eagles pretty much confirms what has been said that it is down to the Pats and jests for Revis.

Find it hard to believe they would give Maxwell that deal without at least putting a feeler out to Revis. Ya Maxwell is 3 years younger but you will probably still get 3 great years out of Revis.

@EliotShorrParks: As I reported last night, expectation is that #Eagles and Gore will get a deal done by Tuesday. That continues to be the case, per source

Your an idiot. I know about revis taking all money. I feel mayo is severely overpaid.

@AdamSchefter: Chargers and CB Brandon Flowers reached agreement on a 4-year deal, per league sources. Deal to be signed this week.

@Rand_Getlin: CB Brandon Flowers has agreed to terms on a four-year deal with the #Chargers, a source confirmed. Expect him to average around $9M per.

Flowers, Jackson, Maxwell gone. Cromartie/Williams both getting up there and age.

I'd roll with Browner, Butler, Arrington, Dennard as our main four CBs if we lose Revis.

Yahoo's Rand Getlin reports the Eagles have an offer on the table for free agent Frank Gore that includes $7 million in guarantees.

Its weird not seeing gore in a niners uniform.

That guaranteed number better be for a 3-4 year contract. Otherwise things are going insane over in Philly..

Someone tell Chip that Gore didn't go to Oregon.

So, the top under 30 corners have been signed at from 8-10M. Who might the patriots sign if we don't re-sign Revis?

BTW, if there are no other corners under 30 available, it is difficult for me to say that the teams overpaid for Jackson, Flowers and Maxwell.

What do we think that the top safeties will get? Are we even in the market?

With the cap increasing each year, Pats NEED to find a way to keep Revis & McCourty

Before we villianize Devin let's wait to see what figures Patriots are even offering. JUST my opinion with no sources but, I get the feeling from what Dmac is saying that the Patriots are not trying very hard to re-sign him and it feels like what happened to Daniel Graham and Damien Woody where they really made no effort to re-sign them. Perhaps Pats don't feel like they can afford Dmac or don't think he's worth the money or feel really good about one of their other safeties. Again though, let's WAIT and SEE before we villanize Dmac (and Revis).

Well, I don't think Maxwell is all that much better than a healthy Dennard and people here are calling for him to be cut because he's 1.5 against the cap.

Revis is probably staying in NE. That's why they went hard on Max.

1. Rashean Mathis could be an option. His market may take a hit because of his age (turning 35 in August). Besides that, the 2nd tier CBs will be getting 5-6 million + a year (Cromartie, Williams, Culliver) and IMO they are not worth it. Entering TC with Browner, Butler, Arrington, Dennard as our main four man CBs is still a solid group.

Maxwell was seriously overpaid. Flowers and Jackson were solid values IMO.

Mccourty 9-10 million a year
Moore 6-7 million a year

The rest of the safeties aren't very good. Adams may be an upgrade over a potential Ryan/Harmon competition for the FS spot if McCourty leaves, but he is on the older side as well.
