2014 Roster - Offseason needs

Why cb?!? If we retain talib, that is a solid group.

Lb depends if we keep fletcher and spikes.

We need OL and DL depth the most IMO.

Looking at ST, I think you have the colors reversed on Gostkowski and Ryan Allen. :snob:

Also, Aiken is an RFA, who I expect will get the right-of-first-refusal tender (since he was an UDFA).

Those are huge and expensive IFs , I hope they sign Talib and Spikes but as off now they are free agents and potentially expensive free agents.

I was thinking DL initially but mapping it out it looks like the Patriots have a serviceable group, if Wilfork and Kelly come back they have an above average unit.

Thanks buddy, I made those updates as suggested.

Our pass defense is championship caliber when Talib is healthy and playing. If we want to win it over the next 2-3 year, he's a must sign. We're simply not going to draft someone as good. He's my first sign. I'd cut; Connolly(2.5m) Kelly(1.7m), Sopoaga(2m) and Wilson(700k). Get Vince to restructure(3.5m). Pay Mankins salary as a bonus to spread out over 3yrs 6.25m, that saves you (4m) doing it like that. We entered the off-season only having 7.1m. Now, we would have 14.5m plus that 7.1m. Roughly 21.6m.

1. Sign Talib
2. Sign Edelman
3. Sign Fletcher

Can we get all 3 for a cap hit of about 10m? I think maybe. Not enough money for the following; Wendell, Svitek, Blount and Spikes. Unless they want to play cheap. Doubt that they would. Except maybe Svitek.

Needs would be; RG, C, TE, DT. Can get; LB, DB and RB depth in the draft and UDFA.
Gonna be tricky to fill those holes. Still don't think we have enough for a big ticket item like Mack from Cleveland. Need Talib more. BB is going to have to be shopping in the discount aisle. Would be great if we could fill two of those first 4(RG, C, DT/DE hybrid and TE) needs I mentioned in the draft. Don't forget we need to have money for picks and some in-season flexibility. Not any room for grandiose signings. Thanks AHern you scumbag.

I have to agree that resigning Talib and Eledman are huge priorities. If we can only sign one, then I would sign Talib.

As for the draft, I am still looking at DT as a huge need. But I only two guys out there with 1st round grades, Nix and Hagerman.

I think OT is the second biggest need and there are a lot of guys with first round grades in this draft. I think some could still be available when we pick.

I do think we get a shot at any of the three OG's with first round grades, Yankey of Stanford, Richardson of Baylor or Martin of Notre Dame.

And then, what does BB do if all three CB's with first round grades are on the board when we pick, Dennard of Michigan state (unlikely but possible), Olomu of Oregon and Gilbert of Ok state?

I guess you haven't been here long enough. Taking a CB is an annual right of spring.

But i agree. We need a DT, Center, Guard, and TE.

What a difference a few weeks makes...

Seems pretty certain to me that Spikes will be allowed to walk in free agency, with Hightower + Collins making him look entirely expendable.

Talib and Blount should get contracts, and I hope Edelman will too.

I never worry about interior offensive linemen with this staff. We seem to grow entirely serviceable OL out of guys walking the street. If we spend a 5th rounder on one, he's sure to become a 10 year starter.

Given that, early in the draft, I like DT, TE, QB and LB as key spots where we'd want to add young talent. And, actually, none of those needs are particularly urgent.

Plenty of holes to fill

I see that people are mentioning TE but I'm surprised they're not prioritising it. Considering we don't know where Gronk will be in his recovery by the start of next season and considering the massive hole without Gronk as evidenced by this season, to my mind TE is by far and away the biggest need and the one position most likely to get a double dip in the draft (or draft and FA). I'm an admirer of Hooman's and Mulligan's blocking but as an offensive weapon the TE position is meaningless right now.

Olomu stayed in school. Don't think the other two will be on the board when we pick.

There's no way Dennard of Gilbert make it anywhere within reach of us. Jason Verett could slip because of size concerns, but I doubt he makes it that far, either.

Bradley Robey, Marcus Roberson and Kyle Fuller would all be possibles in that scenario. Lamarcus Joyner could be as well, but I think he projects better as a hybrid DB than as a pure CB.

I've got a suspicion BB will like Purifoy for his athleticism and his probable draft value. Could produce as a special teamer and returner early.

My top 5 needs. Hope to fill in first 4 rounds with a trade back. I'm signing Talib and Edelman.

1A C
1B WR
3 TE - Blocking one. Harrison could develop into AHern type role.
4 DB - Don't ya always need an extra one?
5 G -

After that we can always use help at; QB, RB(Especially if Blount leaves), DL and LB.

I agree. But not in the 1st unless he makes a huge leap.

Again, I'm hoping Talib gets re-signed and we don't go near CB day 1 or 2.

I agree not in the first.

I getting a lot of confidence in this young DT guys we have week by week, with an entire off season to develop, plus either Wilfork and kelly back or one of them, it will be a solid group. I would not look for fill that position until 4th round unless a BPA is available. So maybe a 4th round is in order.

The gold for us in this draft will be the first 3 rounds where I expect guys collaborating right in the next season, no red shirt year. So I think major needs are, in any order, TE, DE, OL, WR if BPA is available what I think it's very possible.

4th round on I expect depth but maybe a surprise at RB or WR.

Oh yes this scenario assuming Talib and Minitron stay, otherwise it's a different analysis, obviously CB it would overtake all other needs unless they really trust Ryan to be a starter next season.
