So who do you like for your DL/LB role?

Originally it was Marcus Smith but a bad 3 cone probably makes him unlikely to be drafted by us now. Barr is certainly a possibility if he does drop and whilst I'm not all that keen on Trent Murphy as a LB, he does offer some flexibility. I do think that DE/DT would be the better way to fix the role.

Looking at DTs -
How many do you think go in the first round?
Donald, Nix, Hageman and Jernigan seemed to be mocked in the first round. I don't get the love for Jerigan he just seems OK to me. My DT rankings look something like this:
1. Aaron Donald
2. Dominique Easley
3. Louis Nix
4. DaQuan Jones
5. Ra'Shede Hageman
The only one worth trading up to get is Donald IMO, I attempt to trade down to try to get a Guard and any of the Guys I listed. Then draft a TE in the 3rd and LB in the 4th.

I wouldn't grade DaQuan Jones that highly and I think Louis Nix has a good chance of falling into day two. I agree with you on Jernigan. I'd move Hageman up with his elite explosion numbers and I'm a fan of Stephon Tuitt who carries a first round grade for me. Shamar Stephen , Caraun Reid, Zach Kerr and Justin Ellis are later round favourites of mine.

Interesting that the Pats gave Brennan Williams a second round grade last year ( a grade of 7) and he was picked two picks ahead of Harmon who had a 5.5 grade. It would have been interesting to think that they might have picked Williams ahead of Harmon. Also, the Pats had Harmon ranked higher than Corey Lemonier (5) or Kayvon Webster (4.5).

I want someone that can win quick, but those guys are rare. Barr can do it.

My problem with Barr is that he only wins one way. Still, I can certainly get used to the idea of Barr at pick 29. He has to go the Titans at #11 though right. They're switching to a 3-4 hybrid and don't really have a proper 3-4 OLB.

Pity we couldn't see what they gave Wheaton and Goodwin. Would have been interesting.

5.5 is a 3rd round grade which puts Harmon's pick spot on (assuming the Patriot version is similar). And I was wrong on Brennan Williams. If this grading system is close he was a first round, potential future pro bowler according to the Pats.

Good. I just think that most elite edge rushers can bend the edge and go right around the tackle quickly. Like the Shazier clip I posted.

He's had drop issues but I'd be all for selecting Brandon Coleman in the 3rd/4th round range. He's a massive target at 6'6".

Is my scenario. Select a TE with the 1st or 2nd pick. The other pick go DT/SS/OG. Address remaining needs with our other picks. I'm not sure what compensation we'd receive in an Amendola trade but we could certainly use some more picks especially in this deep draft class.

I see flashes and I can see how he'd work as a 3-4 OLB but I don't love him as a full time DE. That was kind of my point. We don't know the Pats grading system. In Patriot Reign a 7 was indicated to be the low end of a "circumstantial starter". So they viewed Williams as perhaps someone who could possibly start his first year if needed.

A 5.5 was indicated to be a "Make it" i.e. a back up. Which is what Harmon ended up being.

Forgot about that from Patriot Reign. I imagine that system still holds.

I think Barr can do a lot of things. In 3-4 sets we could have Collins-Mayo-Hightower-Barr, and in 4-3 under sets he could play a LEO/RDE role with Jones moving either inside or to LDE. He could also play 4-3 SAM.

I know. My point is that many elite rushers have built skills and great careers off of one skill -- the speed rush.

Also speed rushers usually get to the QB quicker than normal (imagine that!) and no QB gets the ball out quicker than Manning. Except Brady of course. I wouldn't mind building the team with the Broncos in mind. There isn't much else in the division.

I don't think this is a good idea. Playing Collins at OLB and Jones as a 34 End was ineffective last year. Collins was at his best as a strong side LB and the Pats aren't going to take of Ninko to much, his run D is to valuable.
