No offense, but judging a strength of schedule of a team right now is about as accurate as estimating your chances of winning $360 million in the lottery tonight. Ok, it isn't that bad.

The Pats look to have a weak schedule this upcoming season, but last year if you had the 49ers, Bengals, or Lions on your schedule; you would have thought they would be near guaranteed Ws. If you had the Chargers, you would think that was a potential loss. Too much changes in the NFL from one year to the next.

That said, there is a chance all the other AFC East teams are sub .500 next year .

As far as most games against teams with 9+ wins I think these would be few across the league. After all, there were a TON of teams that were 8-8 or lower last year.

Just think, this year we are tied for the least games against winning teams from last year (4).

Guess what, last year we ONLY had 2 regular season games the entire season against teams that wound up with winning records that year.

If the Bills stay reasonably healthy they should definitely be able to hit 9 wins.

While there are lots of changes year-to-year the fact the Pats have the easiest schedule based on last years record indicates there schedule is at least reasonably easy. You gotta love the NFC West, though the niners are much improved.

Looking at our schedule, games against the 49ers, Texans, Ravens, and Broncos will all be pretty tough games. If I'm not mistaken though, I believe we get the 49ers, Texans, and Broncos at Foxboro, which is a plus. We also dodged a bullet by getting Seattle at home instead of on the road, they are a completely different animal in Seattle. Are we playing in London this year against the Rams?

None taken my friend, I agree with what you have to say hence the disclaimer that "teams find a way to improve during FA and Draft"........

Bills may be a wildcard team this year if their O can get it together..

It's a conspiracy because Goodell loves dem Patriots!

With the emphasis on qb play. It's amazing how bad the other qb's are in this division. Well, at least before Tebow came in....snicker..Fitzy, Moore and Can'tchize. Good grief! AFC West adds Manning. Skins trade the world for RG3. Our division adds Tebow.

Last season, I suggested that the Pats might have three of the four best QBs in the division, and was roundly criticized.

Now. . . .

The problem with the Bills is they have no depth. Every year, they are decimated by injuries and they go from a team that is decent to good to awful overnight. The Bills would have finished second in the AFC East last year if they could have stayed relatively healthy. But just like most years, they couldn't.

I agree that at full strength, they are a legitimate Wild Card candidate and clearly the second best team in the division. Once injuries start, they will be fighting to get over .500.

Should go 13-3 with that schedule and have a fair chance for another undeafeted season. Would really be interesting if they're 15-0 and have to play the Jets or Baltimore on the road. The latter will not happen for sure.

Eh. Look at 2011. The preseason rankings are listed above, the after-the-season rankings after that....

Pretty big discrepancy really....

I don't care who is on the schedule. I just look at it and see 16 bulls-eyes this year.

This team is going to have the same mentality & hunger that carried them to a near-perfect season in 2007. And in terms of the AFC, their roster is as equally superior to its competition as it was that year. NFC is a different story, but we only face one of the elites in the NFC all season. So we'll manage.

A healthy Fitz near the start of the season should be a challenge. The cliff his play fell off in the second half of the year wasn't a coincidence, like you say, depth.

Virtually by definition, the Patriots' schedule is the toughest in the division. This strength of schedule calculation is faulty because it factors in the Patriots' own record when making the calculations. For explanation, the ranking is based on the number of wins that your 16 opponents had in 2011. The Patriots' opponents had 116 wins, lowest in the league. The Jets' opponents had 126 and the Dolphins' opponents had 127. But in each case, 26 of those "opponent" wins were the Patriots' wins.

The Patriots played 8 games in 2011 against teams we'll also play in 2012. The record of our opponents in those 2011 games was 1-7. One of the reasons why our opponents' schedule is rated so hard is because they play us, and one of the reasons why our schedule is so easy is because we play them. This statistic is for losers.
