Kaczur was working with the first unit in Mankins' absence. That's not speculation. Unless you're trying to claim that working with the first unit doesn't mean working with the first unit, Kaczur was ahead of Connolly.

Kaczur left the first practice on the 2nd day of camp.
Its ludicrous to say he beat out Connolly because he worked with the first unit on the first day of camp.
Perhaps he would have, but he wasnt there long enough to show he was 'good enough to be the stater'. It was an experiment that lasted one day.
