Hernandez would basically be competing with slot receivers for a spot alongside Brady/an RB/Moss/a blocking TE (preferably Gronk)/a WR (Holt/Tate/Price).
Tough to beat out Welker that way when he comes back.
Alternatively, you can say he's competing for the Holt/Tate/Price slot. That's a little more plausible.
Of course, there also are important specialty situations in which 2 TE is if anything the minimum.
