2 patriots ranked dead last in positions by PFF - 2024 season

Been saying all year Dell Pettus was playing the best safety on the team once Peppers was gone, yet they continually played Dugger way more. PFF can be off quite a bit especially game to game but they give you some good ballpark info over larger samples and Pettus was a find, a good player and someone they should have been starting at safety.

Hooper over Henry is where PFF messes up. They value successful plays over individual plays. Hooper was targeted less, played less and was open less but having a few good plays in there skews his number.

Elliss is overrated here but he actually played really well in multiple games. He was inconsistent though, could have a monster half and then get manhandled in the second half. But he popped on tape more than other linebackers, which isn't saying much with this group.

Brenden Schooler was 67.2 on defense, beats out Dugger, Mapu and Hawkins LOL

If you want to keep him, and based on his play this year we should want to keep him, the goal would be to sign him to more than a one year deal... a couple extra million dollars over the length of a contract, in this case, is neither undeserved or undisciplined...

We want to keep good players here and he is a good player - one of the only bright spots on the team this year... In light of your repeated comments about the lack of talent on the roster you particularly should know this... This shortsightedness couched in terms like "fiscal responsibility" is the same reason we lost a player like Jacobi Meyers over a (couple) million dollars or so... Its a stupid way to run a business that thrives on player talent.
I agree to some extent, but Elliss and Myers are not equivalent. I always wanted to pay Myers. Elliss is not a starter, he is a backup and ST guy, Myers is a starter. Elliss has a high motor so he sometimes flashes, but he is too small and misses his gaps giving up big plays. Elliss has bounced around and stuck nowhere because he is a bottom of the roster guy.

Elliss and Myers are opposites IMO. We should pay Myers because he is WR3 or WR4, but is a starter. Elliss is a ST player and career backup. We can keep Elliss, but should not give him a payday.

Let's hope Vrabel keeps fiscal discipline.

lets hope he can put talent on the roster.

Is Elliss a starter? Probably not/Not Yet. But he could develop into one. We need quality depth, developmental players who are good enough to merit playing time. that should include Christian Elliss. I am in favor of paying for guys like that. even over paying for guys like that.

If we don't sign him, I'm fine with that too.

As long as he's replaced by someone better.

I'm trying to think if anyone improved on the team this year from the year before? Maybe Gonzo, Schooler, Hunter Henry?

Eh...

would you settle for a player worth developing?

He's a bottom of the roster guy. He's a minimum contract guy. We already have one overpriced below-average player (Tavai) at the same position, we don't need two.

We can do better, and should do better. If you want to keep him, fine, but certainly don't spend any money on him. I don't see where he could ever develop into a starter. A 5th round developmental LB would have the same value. I've seen enough of Elliss.

Ellis played really well, good on defense and good on special teams. He’s worth an extension, he earned it. He’s a lot more athletic than Tavai and has more range.

This PFF list shows the lack of talent on the D line with Barmore out with the possible exception of Keion White, the tweener. Not big enough at the point of attack as a DT and not fast enough as a DE in the passing game.

Really thinking one of our first two picks needs to be on the D line.

Exactly right.. I remember a 5th round pick in 1995 that was initially thought as an afterthought who turned out to be one of the best MLBs in patriots history.. Last seen on ESPN. No way am I comparing Eliss to tedy.. but there is something there to work with in Eliss.. adding elite talent and coaching will allow him to grow as a player and not be thrust into a starter like last season.

They both suck. But I do prefer Elliss to Jalopy if forced to choose one over the other.
That last missed pass that he threw behind pop when Drake left the Chargers game... remember it.. it's probably the last pass we've seen he throw as a pro.. he sucks!..

Zolak reported that dugger had the high ankle earlier in the season and he never really healed from it. As we all know dugger is a top 10 player in the league.. coaching was pathetic as we all know.. but the injuries had more to do with him.
Uncle Dugg a top 10 player in the league? I thought comedy night was on Thursday’s?
