PostGame Thread OFFICIAL POSTGAME THREAD: Patriots Fall 13-10 in Seattle

Immediate Postgame Reactions
Did anyone report seeing this in camp? You’d think that would be noted by now.

I mean. He's coming off a shoulder injury from the playoffs and today is the only real game time we've seen and his deep ball was all over the place.

Not just one pass. The previous INT was equally bad. Or maybe it was the first one. Whichever, it was also throwing away a FG trying to hit a TD. Both were poor tradeoffs.

I agree about Hollins, in fact you’re right, apart from Hollins and Stevenson his accuracy all night was spotty. He did fine when he took something off and laid up a cream puff lob to Raridon for the first TD, but there was nobody in the same county as Eli. And he was almost perfectly on target to a wide open Doubs for a drop, but even that was a bit underthrown. Otherwise he was not hitting his targets accurately.

I don’t think playing in the preseason made that difference. I would expect him to be able to throw the ball through a tire at 15 yards and tonight I don’t think he could’ve done that consistently. And then on top of that inaccuracy he made bad decisions about needlessly throwing into tight coverage, and they lost the game. Those decisions had nothing to do with not playing in preseason imo.
It is worth remembering, Maye was strangely inaccurate like this last year in the preseason. I remember people complaining endlessly about it. Seems like it may just be a weird funk he gets himself into?

It's good that he cares BUT moping and feeling sorry for himself is the worst way to rebound. Be a stand up guy, learn from your mistakes, practice hard this week and next week rebuild your team mates confidence. He looked scared out there (like Maye)

Scared football teams do not win many games
Let’s hope he uses today’s game as motivation to get better. It’s ok to take it hard after the game but he has to move forward.

Here’s hoping that he and Maye spend a lot of time together working together for the next week.

Ankle injury after Two catches; and a underthrown football by hero boy that should have been a TD. Lucky we got a PI.
That underthrown PI call was a gimme, great call and well executed.

There are QBs and WRs that have made very good careers out of exactly that one play. It used to be a staple of the Ravens offense.

Without lube, after that performance.

It's easy to forget that Drake under through a wide open Brown for a easy touchdown by only about a mile.

Something is wrong with his arm.

He looked pretty off in last year’s preseason games and week 1 against the terrible raiders too. Played amazing week 2 on minus the turnovers against pitt. Completely different guy. Think hes just needs more work before we see his regular self. I just hope the lack of preseason at all this year doesn’t delay things.

JMD shows his chink in the armor. He still believes in the BB overthinking method - of not to try too hard early in the season. Don't show much, play vanilla, run run run - even when it's not working. No clever misdirections, obvious run & pass looks. Just crap.
And - go completely away from the short outlet RB passes - and Larison never played the 2nd half. WHY?
Box score shows Larison returned a punt, a KO, and caught a pass in the fourth quarter. Might have been in for other plays that didn’t show in the box score.

He’s got to work harder to prepare so he’s ready to go when things get real. Same thing might also help his slow start at the beginning of games.

I think Maye is a finesse guy right now. He's not going to win those gritty games or win in the clutch against a stout D in a big game. If he was a basketball player he'd be a 3pt specialist with a high arcing, beautiful shot with a fluid release that Stephen Curry would be proud of. But the meat and potatoes stuff isn't his forte right now. Think Larry Bird with the variety of offensive tools to beat you. Taking what the D gives you, keeping his eyes downfield while moving up in the pocket, getting into advantageous plays with clever audibles. That's just not there yet on a consistent basis.
Interesting analogy. I'm not sure finesse is the word - the guy can make plays with his legs, in fact probably needed to do more of it tonight (you do run the risk of injury is always the issue).

He's definitely not a multi-concept, adjusting, fully comprehensive QB. To your BB point, he doesn't have a lot in his bag. What's interesting in that as good as his arm is, he doesn't seem to have that laser ball into tight windows that a guy like Allen has. Drake's been credited with one of the better arms in the league and we all gushed at his touch last year, but it's almost like he puts too much air under the ball all the time when sometimes he needs to rip it in there.

I tend to think he's officially come down to earth. I know a lot of us were hoping for the second coming of TB12, I don't think Drake is close that. Need to get him to top 10 type good.

It's still early, and that Seahawks defense is really good. I do think we'll know what he's made of this year.

When Brady was screwing up, it felt like it was registering and he was pissed. He was a guy that felt like he would rarely make the same mistake twice. These weak Hail Mary's poorly placed into coverage do not feel like a set of Brady type mistakes.
I think we already know what he’s made of. What he showed us tonight is consistent with what he’s showed us in the past. He just didn’t get as lucky the way he has at times in the past, and wasn’t as sharp as he’s sometimes been in the past. But he was still vintage Drake “Drake Maye” Maye.

Hopefully the slow start to games is something he can work on or shed with more experience.

I think the ‘extended preseason’ will continue to be an issue here though, vrabel overall has not done well week 1. It is what it is, but thinking we’ll bounce back

Just watched the game ending INT again. That's just terrible. If he dropped back and could read a defense like a classic drop back passer he would have had a CHANCE to be able to hit douglas over the middle for an easy TD. He's wide open. A lob over the linebackers and it's an easy touchdown. Instead he throws off his back foot and underthrows Mac while staring him down. He stared down guys on all his interceptions.

I want to believe this is just rust but man, the opportunity was there to write a different narrative.

I hope we bounce back. What worries me, and pisses me off, is that I see an error repeater showing in Maye. Hopefully this was bad enough that it serves as a wake up call. But I’m really worried that the it’s too ingrained and the leopard won’t be able to change its spots.

It's super likely that AJ will go on IR-dtr.
So, do they roll with Doubs & Chism? Or do they bring up Dixon - who looks like what Doubs should be.
For now - Hollins needs to be the AJ role. Just feature him as your WR1 - he's a baller.
I’d rather they feature KW and keep Mack doing what he’s doing just fine right now

And again, we don't know about this year's Seahawks D, but last year's playoff run was arguably the hardest slate of defenses any QB has had to face, ever, and that's before taking into account the talent level of the skill players and injuries.

Yikes! Either he pulls an AB and leaves the team, or he becomes the featured piece next week with a massive game.
let's hope he has the killer mentality to bounce back. (along with Maye)
Doubs can’t have a massive game next week if Maye plays the way he did this week.

His footwork is still not consistent. He looks a little better on some of his play action drop backs. I actually liked the look on his play action drop backs tonight. Kind of reminded me of Peyton Manning. But drop backs like that final one that ended the game. That's awful. He limits his chances of coming off his primary read and making a nice, accurate throw to a secondary receiver like Douglas coming over the middle. That's what concerns me right now.

Footwork and getting to his secondary reads would go a long ways against these tougher defenses. I look at that throw he made to Stevenson last year in Miami where he stepped up in the pocket and threw a laser down the sidelines for a big gain. That's what a superstar looks like. I need to see more of that in the pocket.
