Sunday observations

-hard to not like what we are seeing from the WR room, even with out Maye on the field. DeGennaro looks like he can play in the league. I hope they get him to the PS. I like Dixon as well. both eventually may be better options than Chism? who continues to make catches. Williams looks like he will make plays this season if given the shot. I still see some lapses in his route running, and his ability/desire (?) to fight for a contested ball. ce be very accurate and make every throw.

Chism has a very specific skill set, namely the Edelman/Welker quick lateral movement set + the strength to pick up YAC by breaking tackles. DeGennaro is closer to Boutte/Williams.

I’m not sure I agree, I think that may be too limiting. I see some AJ, or maybe Mack Hollins style WR play in him. He just doesn’t have their physique, at least not yet.

6'1 196 is nice size.
2 inches taller than Boutte, 5 lbs lighter.
Definitely more muscular than Boutte, he's pretty ripped up.
It's weird, but wearing number 23 makes him look smaller.

Agree he’s got a good build for the position. Still needs to bulk up a good bit to compare to Mack or AJ. A really good bit.

Ya, he will never catchup to AJ in that regard, AJ is a rare bird with his size/thickness.
AJ weights more than Hollins and is 3 inches shorter, he's a unicorn.
Build wise DeG looks very similar to Hollins, just shorter.
But yes, he could add another 5ish lbs, maybe 10.

yes, I was not comping DeGennaro to anyone, especially JE or Welkie.
I think he could have some versatility at X,Y or Z, and present some mismatches.
he needs some time in this offense, so I am hoping PS this year.
potentially more upside than Chism from my limited views on him so far (5 times=2 games, 3 practices)

He’s a guy they need to make sure they hold onto for sure. This is where it gets tricky on the cut downs. They might be inclined to keep a guy like DeGennaro on the initial roster and then move him to the PS a week or so later with a nice pay bonus to keep him around and then sign a guy like DaQuan Jones or Shaq Thompson at that point. Lots of moving pieces this time of year.

attended the game. have not yet watched replay

-hard to make any definitive statements regarding positions, since the one's mostly are not playing.

-new position and all, but Hudson's struggles do not bode well for him. I really like the upside, but currently he is not ready. he may never be. too bad as the team needs better depth. PS in my opinion

-DeVito was better than last week, but still inconsistent from my vantage point. I have seen him in practice throw extremely accurate balls, and make every throw. but 2 games now, he sailed some throws and underthrew a few. I find Morton impressive, and hope he somehow sticks either on the PS or the end of the roster.

it looked like Bryant went off for a spell (not sure if he returned). Lomu at LT held his own, but appeared to be beat a couple of times inside. I thought in general the OL play was better last night than last week, save for Hudson, who played poorly both. I do not believe we saw Van Roten play at all.

-Muma had what looked like a few missed tackles. I continue to think there needs to be some vet depth added. I continue to be impressed with the potential upside for Jacas. I assume Landry is going to miss a portion of the season, and feel Jacas will be ready. he has a nicee feel for pass rushing. I thought he was pushed around a bit on the edge last night.

-Larison reminds me of a bigger Woodhead. really nice hands, and gets open.

-Morton punting the ball was interesting (depth?) but Barringer did play. was he injured?

-nice to see Borregales with a bounce back night with FG/XP

-reserve the right to change my mind on some things after I watch replay, but those are my initial reactions to the game and some players
Thank you for sharing this. Always good to get the perspectives from fans who attend the games! For me what keeps me optimistic is that we have the most important elements a team needs to compete in the NFL. QB and coaching. Even over the superbowl years we didn't have talent at every single position on the 53 but we had the coach and QB. Similarly what we have now. I truly believe the offense is going to be top 5 and the defense will be top 10. Not to long ago we had back to back 4 win seasons.

I love Vrabel's coaching and style and the message he sends even in a meaningless pre season game. Barring any major injuries we stand to be a contender again this season.

Last year, we added four players late and after the cut: Woods, DiVito, Gregory and Durden. All filled roles on the roster. Durden was a major find.

We've already added Van Roten, a key addition. We badly need an ILB; this seems possible. We could add another player or two almost anywhere on the roster. Sure, we'd like a 4th CB or a pass rusher. These seem unlikely unless we offer up a 5th.
Agreed. On pass rusher Jacas is coming along.. we have to remember he missed alot of time..however his motor is relentless, he's physical, tough and will continue to get better as a rookie.

Chism is the type of player - that to me - was missing last season.

A safety valve who always gets open and catches the ball guy like Brady always had. Maye is more than mobile, but I wonder if the Pats would prefer him to not expose himself running as much as last season.

most everyone of this forum says that player is Pop
I still question that, but whatever

Pop is such. He struggled earlier last season in the offense. He looks stronger and more confident in the offense.

Chism was on the roster last year and wasn't that type of player.

He had few opportunities and was seldom targeted.
I liked him last off-season.
Had many posts back and forth with Ring who said he wasn't an NFL WR.
That said, he did have few opportunities in the passing game and looked really bad returning punts.
He looks better this year.
Has noticeably more wiggle, maybe he was just playing timid last year.
He's developing, he appears to have a long NFL career ahead of him if he can continue to develop.

He had few opportunities and was seldom targeted.
Yes correct. Neither was their third round pick. They had an experienced group of receivers last year where neither one got much run. Does not mean what you think it means.

perhaps because the team thought that he didn't have the qualities that you think that he has
Or perhaps the team was targeting other receivers for reasons having nothing to do with Chism.
