We Drafting a QB

I went to IU so have soft spot for Penix, injuries scare you but realizing QB's, even Justin Fields, are over drafted and over traded, you close your eyes and go Penix at 34 if MHJ at 3
You kind of have to, and take the risk on the injuries, which to me is the bigger issue, rather than his panic game against Michigan.

But then again, it's not like Mac Jones is an ironman or something.

If we miss out on Williams and Maye, I’m for taking MHJ. Then I might be interested in trading a second for Fields. He hasn’t been great, but he’s still young. He’s only a year older than Daniels, Penix, and Nix.
Why would you trade such a high pick? at 34, there's still going to be a ton of first round talent on the board.

You will get fields for a 3rd and 5th . I don't think he goes higher than that. You gotta be crazy trading second for fields. He did not have garopollo level stats a d is basically on same level as mac and marginally better than wilson with some hidden potential . If he were so good then bears would not be trading him. Of we are trading we are punting on him and that's not worth a second rounder.

Don't get carried away by what media is spewing. It's the bears front office at work through some paid articles.

You might be able to get him for just the 5th. That's probably fine.

Ok, I’ll trade a third for him instead, or a seventh if Chicago will take that. lol.

My point is Fields may be better than the other QB’s after the first two. It’s easy to think of him as a finished product and much older because he’s been in the NFL for three years, but he’s only a year older than these other guys. Daniels, Nix, and Penix were all 5 year college players while Fields played 3 years. He basically accomplished in his second year of college what it took each of them until their fifth year of college to accomplish. He has a higher floor and maybe a higher ceiling.

You really think he goes for less than Lance? And Darnold? Don't love Fields but his market is going to bigger than you think

Add in Rosen, Wentz, Bridgewater, Ryan too. Someone will overpay, he's a first Rd pick who's played like a 2nd, theyll get that IMO

It has for the last decade+ yes.
Patriots shouldn't pay that pricefor Caleb. Where will they get talent to surround Caleb Williams?

Nonetheless, here is an article.....

I mean, one #1 is going to be tough enough to part with for one of these guys, no shot am I trading 3 #1s for Caleb Williams, even if I do think he's *the* guy.

If you 100% think he's a generational prospect and really believe in him, do whatever because nothing is worth more than securing an elite QB. You can get creative later. If you are unsure, then don't.

It seems all three top QBs have a question mark, Williams crying and maybe wanting a stake in the team, Maye with his knees, Daniels is too thin, if you want to get a good QB sometimes you have to take a chance, in fact at best it's 60-40 that you get a good NFL QB in the first round.

I guess Brady was too thin as well, because he was the same size at the combine that Daniels is now.

I'm not dismissing him because of size I'm just saying no matter what top guy someone brings up someone says something negative about him. That was the context of my post. My point is you have to take one of them because we need a QB.

Yup I agree. After all, that's what the Panthers did last year.

I think he *can* be the guy, the only QB in the class I think has that possibility. But that's not enough to blow three first round picks on. He's not generational - but he has some rare traits.

Like with Mac. He had incredible receivers and OL. It was easy to look good.

Maye didn’t put up great numbers this year, but he had a poor OL and I don’t think his receivers were that good. I think that’s why some people are down on him, but it was probably better preparation for the NFL than if he was surrounded by elite talent.

Daniels offensive line was terrible.

I am sitting here watching this Texans/Baltimore game and it hit me that when Lamar was a rookie he was not a great QB/thrower but was amazing breaking pocket taking off. His running brings a difficult element for defenses so he was able to pick up 1st downs on his own then complete a few short passes and continue down the field. The longer he has been in the league he has developed into a good passer and he still has that running ability and he is able to move the ball very well. We need that.

TLDR: Draft Jayden Daniels

When was last time a "generational QB" was drafted #1 and really worked out? I mean as a true generational talent? Not a Luck, Burrow etc. Manning, and then before that Elway. So what are odds Williams is that rather than? Maye? 5% more? Probably more like 2%. So no on the three 1s for him

And the Colts managed to wreck Luck and didn't even give up two extras 1s for him

7 out of the 8 QB's playing today and tomorrow were 1st round picks...just saying

11 of 18 teams that didn’t make playoffs had first round qb
