We Drafting a QB

Daniels was not considered a first round pick after 4 years as a starting college quarterback. He broke out this past season in his fifth year. I find that concerning especially when taking into account he was throwing to two of the country’s best receivers. Nabers is considered by most to be the best receiver after Harrison Jr. and Thomas is ranked the 4th or 5th receiver in the draft and a likely late first round pick. He also had a very good tight end in Mason Taylor (Jason Taylor’s son) while throwing behind one of the better offensive lines in the country.

I watched a lot of his passing highlights and they were mostly to wide open receivers. Others were 50/50 balls that his elite receivers were coming down with. Meanwhile his arm strength is mediocre. He’s going to struggle like Mac when threading the needle in the middle of the field and sideline throws.

He is an outstanding runner, but then you have to worry about his physique holding up. He’s not just skinny. He has a slight frame with narrow shoulders and hips.

Williams is certainly going 1 or 2. I’m hoping Maye falls to 3. If not, I think MHJ is the obvious pick.
That's the problem you have with most college QB's, they're surrounded by really good talent and it's hard to assess just how good they'll be in the NFL, but you need a QB. I'd take MHJ and Nix if we could pull that off.

look, nobody truly knows how any of these guys are going to pan out so I respect the opinion. I disagree on any comparison to Mac arm wise. Daniel’s placement on back shoulder throws is a thing of beauty. He is able to throw down field on the run, which Mac can’t come close to doing. Daniel’s also had much better pocket presence than Mac.

In my opinion Daniel’s combination of athleticism and pocket presence with downfield accuracy are very rare.

Sure, he could be a bust, just like Maye or Williams. I think he’s the quintessential modern quarterback and with the right coaching could be a star.

Like with Mac. He had incredible receivers and OL. It was easy to look good.

Maye didn’t put up great numbers this year, but he had a poor OL and I don’t think his receivers were that good. I think that’s why some people are down on him, but it was probably better preparation for the NFL than if he was surrounded by elite talent.

Man... you are terrifying us. Considering the value ascribed to #3 pick just go out and get MHJ or trade back with chargers get two additional second round picks and pick the best OT in 5 and best Wide receiver and qb in 2nd round

You keep saying Heisman winner as if that was some sort of predictor for NFL success. Amongst the previous winners in this century we have:

Johnny Manziel
Marcus Mariota
Jamies Winston
Kyler Murray
Sam Bradford
Tim Tebow
Matt Leinart
Troy Smith (who?)
Jason White
Eric Crouch
Chris Weinke
When did I say “Heisman winner” initially?………

Like Joe Burrow who couldn’t get a sniff after a redshirt year and two years at OSU. His first year at LSU was meh. Then, as a senior, he tore it up with 2 top 5 NFL wr’s- Chase and Jefferson.

Lots of folks like Harrison at 3 and Nix at 34.

And if Nix is draft at 14 or 24, then 'Oh well" we took our best shot at QB. Just take out starting LT at 34.
============
We need to have a draft Plan A, B and C with regard to QB (and OT)

Harrison JR at 3 Justin Fields at 34 if Nix is gone.

Third QB who very easily could bust (since most of them do) is not more valuable than Randy Moss.
Marvin Harrison is not anywhere close to guaranteed to be Randy Moss.

You really love Justin Fields lol
I just don't understand why people suddenly love this guy who's 10-28 and is basically Mac Jones but runs. His stats aren't average, they're just bad. Why would you waste real draft capital on that - you're better off taking a flyer on an unknown at that point. That's what I'm saying.

Why Justin Fields? Why? Take your chances with Nix.
Any view on trading for Jake Browning? Watched him and good processing speed and quick release looks good for current patriots system, but throwing to Chase and Higgins makes processing a little easier. Wouldn't give up much for him but could be decent stop gap if you go MHJ at #3 and QB 2nd

Trading what though? He had a nice little Scott Mitchell run there - but I'm not giving up anything but a day 3 pick for him. He really fell apart once the tape got out on him. I like the guy, but he's got a pretty limited arm. He's sort of a glowed-up version of Bailey Zappe, really. Definitely better, and he's got the toughness you like to see, not afraid to stand in there, and like you said, makes good decisions, but I don't know that he's ready to be the heir apparent.

Now is your question "Would he be the best QB on the roster right now?" Yes. No question.

Yeah I'm saying a 4th or 5th, Bengals prob don't do that deal but who knows Seems like Minshew type in right situation, not a long term starter, but could start him 8-10 games and then put a 2nd Rd pick in if needed

Penix or Nix, I mean, in my heart of hearts, 34 is still too high for those guys, but you might not have a choice at that point. But that's where you take your flyer - not at 3. Agree.

I went to IU so have soft spot for Penix, injuries scare you but realizing QB's, even Justin Fields, are over drafted and over traded, you close your eyes and go Penix at 34 if MHJ at 3

If we miss out on Williams and Maye, I’m for taking MHJ. Then I might be interested in trading a second for Fields. He hasn’t been great, but he’s still young. He’s only a year older than Daniels, Penix, and Nix.
