Patriots Defense Is Changing, But Not Against Wilson

Steve Balestrieri

The most immediate focus on Bill Belichick and defensive coordinator Matt Patricia... is how to breathe some life in what has been a moribund pass rush.

There almost certainly won't be any pass rush against Wilson on Sunday night.

Unfortunately, there also won't be any pass rush against anybody else for the rest of the season.

I agree that will be the one factor - along with poor O-line play - that will hamper the Pats all year long.

How so?! They're 7-1 with no pass rush!

Good point but honestly, I think Brady is getting hit a ton more than he should and I think eventually that will wear you down. The defense has not played anyone of merit, in my mind. Granted, it could be a vanilla scheme for a vanilla team but still, call me worried.

Seattle is still one of the best teams in the NFC (Dallas, Atlanta and Seattle are my top 3 NFC teams) and I think we will learn a lot about this team from this game.

I don't think the D has been anywhere near abysmal, as the PPG would obviously indicate, but they have underwhelmed. I think most of us thought it would be much better, especially the front seven. I am just waiting to see what it will look like as we get closer to the playoffs. This month will be very telling, IMO.

I don't care? I can't stand it?

along with poor O-line play

You really think with how Brady is performing that the OL play has been poor? MY F**KING WORD, some of you just whine to whine and look completely clueless doing it.

Football Outsiders has NE as a top 15 pass blocking unit. Ya not top 5 but certainly not poor. You want to see poor OL play go watch the beginning of '14 or the end of last season.

Been hit on 15% of his drop backs. So you think it should be ton less than 15%? I should rephrase that. on 85% of his passes he hasn't been hit, so you think it should be a ton more?

Yes, I think Brady makes that O-line look magnificent.

Patriots are 9th in the NFL with 58 hurries, which puts them on pace for 116 over a 16 game season.

In 2015, they were in the middle of the pack with 96 hurries, and in 2014 they had only 68.

What's this again about the total lack of pass rush?

According to PFW cause I havent watched Seattle enough to judge. They have a bad O-Line so we may get pressure on Wilson. I am not expecting it but it could happen.

You play to win the game. Not to pad stats. That's the Patriot way. That's one of the reasons Collins is gone. The Patriots have played several mobile QB's and the defensive game plan has obviously been cover and contain as opposed to pressure.

7-1 THE ONLY STAT THAT MATTERS.
