Patriots 2016 Preseason Opponents Announced

I still don't get why the Patriots always play the third preseason game away. It is kinda crapping on the season ticket holders. They will get one game where Brady and other starters probably won't play and another game where they will likely play a quarter.

Pats pre-season opponents announced.

Patriots preseason schedulet has a familiar look

"Though exact dates have not yet been set, the NFL announced the league's exhibition slate on Thursday. The Patriots will host the Saints (sometime between Aug. 11-15) and the Bears (Aug. 18-22) for their first two preseason games. They'll be on the road for their final two, traveling to play the Panthers (Aug. 25-28) and the Giants (Sep. 1-2)"

Interesting that 3 of 4 are same as last year. Giants are a bit suprising due to Coughlin not being there anymore. Also the Panthers game is of note because it's the 3rd preseason dress up game against a really good team.

Giants are a bit suprising

I'm not sure why. I always figured this arrangement was more about proximity and the fact that the teams only play against each other in the regular season every 4 years than a relationship between the coaches.

I doubt any coach wants to travel more than they have to before the regular season opener so it just makes sense.

I wish they would just do away with the preseason games and extend the total amount of regular season games to 18.

I just get the sense that BB likes (trusts) specific coaches. Especially ones such as Payton and Coughlin. I think he trusts Rivera as well. I dunno. Maybe nothing more to it than what you stated.

Sounds good to me. And/Or make scrimmages voluntary.

The Giants are surprising? We've faced them pretty much every year week 4 since 2008 or so.

No.

This is a terrible idea for a variety of reasons, which means the NFL will probably do it at some point, they've already floated playoff expansion which in your world could mean 22 games played to win a SB which is ridiculous.

I'd be okay with doing away with preseason games and letting teams run their own scrimmages or whatever, but the league would never do that because they'd lose ticket and stadium revenue.

I think the current playoff system is fine. I am just not into the preseason games because I find them boring and meaningless. I hate the thought of losing key players for the season or an extended period of time in a preseason game.

I guess the preseason games are useful for the coaches to evaluate certain players and their current potential to fill a position in the team.

The Saints give an opportunity for a joint practice.

Oh great. Another opportunity to see Brady suck and washed up.

Might be possible that Brady played better in last year's preseason than Manning did all of last year.

Giants in week 4 again eh?

That Panthers game could be a good one. 2-3 quarters of starters on great teams going at it.

Everybody hates the preseason for that reason. I don't see how expanding the regular season (causing even more problems) is an appropriate response to that.

I just hope the BB has the balls to play Brady full-time thru all 4 games to protect Garroppolos trade value.

I don't think I'd quite refer to that as "having balls." More like "stupidity."

And increase the roster size by like 5-10 positions, with a scaled increase of the salary cap to compensate

I think that's exactly it. Giants play the Jets and Patriots every year. Saves on the travel (especially the Jets game ). There are no divisional games, so most teams have an annual out-of-conference rival they see every year. Arizona always plays San Diego. Houston and Dallas. Tampa Bay and Jax. etc
