Devin McCourty on secondary: I’d be lying if I said today that we’ll be great

These have been some of the names that played DB for us in our SB winning seasons, excluding the last group.

2001 - Matt Stevens, Terrell Buckley, Terrance Shaw and Antwan Harris.
2003 - Harris once again, Tyrone Poole, Chris Akins and JeRod Cherry
2004 - Poole and Cherry again, Randall Gay, Dexter Reid, Earthwind Mooreland (what a fantastic name) and to top it all off WR Troy Brown, who tied Tedy with 3 INTs

I don't care who the Pats brass decides to put back there, I'm going to believe that they can win it all with them. I have history on my side.

I'll tell you just how great that name is... your teammates are named J-Rod Cherry and Randall Gay, and the jokes are about your name... that's some powerful naming right there.

Elite words from an Elite player.

Good point, you can be strong in other areas [LB, pass rush] to make up for it, like I hope for this year.

This year, we stand to have more depth, but starters are a question. Terrel Buckley was a good third CB in an era when you didn't need a ton of depth. He was a ball hawk and a former 1st round pick. Along with the crafty Otis Smith and HOF Law [and Milloy], a pretty good defensive backfield.

We definitely did it with smoke and mirrors when Law and Poole went down in 2004.

Welp, Rutgers came up empty for secondary positions on the draft tracker... but from Fresno State I do see...

Riley, Curtis CB 6'0" 190 Fresno St.
Smith, Derron FS 5'10" 200 Fresno St.
