PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP 2026 Patriots Training Camp Day 2

Those numbers aren’t similar at all.
Yes. @rochrist’s summary was stark. They’re both way out of their league, at best fringe players at the NFL level.

I don't know about that. One of them had 120 catches in a season, the other had 30.

Sorry, I realized that I should’ve had more of a break between the two, as the revised version here does.

Your summary shows the big difference between Chism and Prentice. I’m saying both of them are equally far from AJ or Boutte or the other WRs likely to be rostered.

That’s not dimishing them, either. Even NFL fringe players are really exceptional. And I’d love to see them step up and seize the opportunity, as unlikely as that might be. It being unlikely just makes it more appealing.

BTW I saw a video clip of Prentice where I thought he showed a good bit of shake and bake. So my comment about him supplanting Chism as this year’s binkie was only partly in jest.

OMG can you imagine if that happened?

Remember I insisted that Chism was quick BUT slow and posters went crazy. Then they watched Chism return kickoffs - LOL. Do you think Chism will be returning kickoffs this year? Chism maximizes his ability, no doubt, but the NFL was a huge step in Y1 for him. Let's see how Chism improves in Y2. And let's see if the Boston media talks Chism up in training camp like they did last year.

Would Josh ever do anything like that?

Lol. Can’t wait.

I could see him using any combination of the 4 of Brown, Boutte, Doubs, Williams and Hollins in 4 WR sets with a Bunched TRIPS set-up to one side. As long as the line holds up, it should be really fun to watch.

The Pats scored 490 points last year be the #2 scoring offense. Provided that the O-line play is not worse, then I could see a 5-10% improvement with the additions of Brown and Gilliam as well as improvements from Henderson and Williams.

I don't foresee Chism returning kicks. Chism is going to have to really work to supplant Douglas as the 5th WR. The only way that I see the Pats carrying 6 this year is if Hollins is the defacto #3 TE. ..

I highly doubt they trade him. The people (media) and some here are on crack if they think he isn't worth much more than a 5th or a 6th. They are smoking the really really good stuff. He is worth nothing less than a 3rd or at worst a 4th. That kind of draft pick, if you got a player of Bouttes' caliber in the draft you would be doing cartwheels.

He ain't going anywhere.
I think you're right, by the way. The interest in a trade, he's made clear, isn't coming from his side. He wants it to work out in a Boutte-Doubs-Brown world. But it's an embarrassment of riches issue.

Two questions:

How many do we carry?

Where do they line up?

Pop in the Slot, besides being a Dr. Seuss parody waiting to happen, has been a successful look for a while, and Boutte is, after all, an outside guy. But it's not like we are looking to consign Doubs or Brown to slot.

Leave it at that, and I guess it could work fine.

you need guys to take a rest, you need 4-wide and 5-wide capability every now and then, guys get injured.

But that's 4 right there if we keep the more proven slot option, leaving how many slots to accommodate Kyle Williams, Efton Chism, Mack Hollins, and whoever all our binkies are. I mean, all three of the names here, though probably not considered better than Kay by many, would have a fan base. Williams, especially, feels like a guy you should make sure to get a look at.

THAT said, yeah, I agree with you. I'd probably keep him over many. I just think that leaves one slot for Kyle, Chism, and Hollins, who range from really intriguing to rock solid if unspectacular.

Okay, that was a lot of words to say very little. Eh well, We absolutely keep Kay, unless we don't!

Gonzo looking like he’s in mid season form, dudes an absolute stud. Poor Washington taking Forbes over him lmao

How many do we carry?
I think we carry six.

That’s why I think we carry six. Otherwise if you only roster 5 WRs the ability to go 5-wide is fragile, there’s a risk that in case of injury you are really forced to play 4-plus_a_scrub-wide. Not the same.

I think the WR roster to start the season will be:
Brown, Doubs, Boutte, Hollins, Williams, and Pop, with Pop on the bubble.

Training camp injuries are the wild card that could disrupt things.

Was it that Maye lacked a safety valve last season? Or was it that he wouldn’t use it, preferred using his legs?
That's the whole thing.

Maye rushed way too much for my liking and after he hurt himself became less effective.
