2027 Draft: EDGE

I agree, in general.

Cole's versatility stands out. He could end up being a jack-of-all-trades, but I don't think so. I think your scenario is ideal, but I could also see him playing MIKE/single LB in some amoeboid and dime packages, or even as a Safety.

Would love Cole plus one of Ross/Pierre/Lubin, but doubt we'll have that luxury.
The way I see it, we have 4 main defensive needs. LB, S, CB and then either a LB2 or DL prospect, either at EDGE or DT. Cole, Coney, Demello Jones and hope a safety falls to the 4th would be ideal for me. But I'd be fine with a Will Echoles or a day 2 edge rusher. And yes, Sammy Brown is very high on my list too still. All that, of course, doesn't allow for FA.

Some thoughts, looking at the current Consensus Big Board pre-season EDGE ratings:

4. Dylan Stewart, S. Carolina
6. Collin Simmons, Texas
20. Matayo Uiagalelei, Oregon
27. Quincy Rhodes, Arkansas
36. Damon Wilson, Miami
44. Kenyatta Jackson, Ohio St.
47. Princewill Unmanmielen, LSU
54. Jordan Ross, LSU
58. John Henry Daley, Michigan
60. Yhonzae Pierre, Alabama
64. Boubacar Traore, Notre Dame
70. Teitum Tuioti, Oregon
80. Will Heldt, Clemson
81. Clev Lubin, Louisville
83. Taylor Wein, Oklahoma
94. Anto Saka, Texas A&M
115. Bryce Young, Notre Dame
197. Adam Trick, Texas Tech
220. Elijah Rushing, Oregon
240. Kameryn Crawford, USC
284. Jonathan Maldonado, Ole Miss
299. Trey White, Texas Tech
334. Williams Nwanwri, Nebraska
1000. Melkart Abou Jaoude, N. Carolina

My Thoughts:

Stewart and Simmons are elite talents. I think Yhonzae Pierre and Jordan Ross are the other 2 guys with the athleticism and speed/speed-to-power to potentially be 1st round talents. Beyond them, Boubacar Traore and Clev Lubin are intriguing day 2 prospects who would fit well.

The others don't interest me much. Uiagalelei, Rhodes, Jackson and Heldt are all power DEs who don't offer much over DreMont Jones. Taylor Wein, Anto Saka, Bryce Young and Adam Trick worth watching. Not sure about Damon Wilson or John Henry Daley.

Right now my list of intriguing EDGE prospects is pretty short. I'm more interested in the other defensive positions.

Clev Lubin really is my kind of guy. Well spoken and mature, high floor, doesn't make mistakes. I'm learning after last season, but I'm still going to have a soft spot for guys like this. Downgraded for the chain however.
