We have to talk about DE/EDGE as the weakest position on the team.
With Jacas a no-show so far, and Landry still working through his knee injury... it is time to get real about a FA DE.
We can't count on Jones & Ponder all season.

Barth mentioned the idea of signing Clowney for a 1 year lightning bottle type of role. And I'm not dismissing it.
He had nearly the exact same stats as Landry last year in half the starts in DAL.
Sure, he's way past his prime, but he's still very strong and can set the edge and still get to the QB.

If we can't figure out a big trade (Thibodeaux, Highsmith) would you consider Clowney or Bosa?

The weakest position on the team is off-ball linebacker.
Otherwise fine, although I'm only signing Bosa if he agrees to go back on the juice.

Pass rush is their weakest link by far. Nobody is scared of their DE/Edge players. Landry is okay, but you could see his knee is slowing him down. Jones is a JAG. I didn't like that signing at all.

I've never been a fan of Clowney, but he's familiar with Vrabel. I won't be shocked if he's a late off-season addition.

Absolutely not on Bosa. He sucks.

Thibodeaux is pedestrian. Highsmith is erratic.

I'd rather swing a trade for Josh Sweat.

If that’s the case, we still have a few other options out there.
And time. Players will get released, more will ask for trades.

Is he cooked?

Yes. Even during his best seasons in 2019 and 2020, he was exposed in the playoffs. He's never been feared as a potential game wrecking pass rusher and is a stiff when caught in space.

Eff Barth, I've been beating the Clowney drum for months.
Barth is very late to my party

Did all of our OLB’s and DE’s die in a horrible plane crash but most of us were unaware of it?

Edge is thin now… in June with players in shorts and tee’s?

Short answer; it’s not.

I agree. OTB LB is perilously thin, but they don't seem to be concerned about it, and I don't really get their lack of urgency.
Because the Pats actually know Landry and Jacas’s medical situation and timetable to return.

They’re not speculating on a fan forum both contracted ebola over the offseason and they’re about to die painful agonizing deaths.

“I’ve got very high expectations for him. Very,” Smith said. “All these guys have done great all spring, but he really, really looks comfortable out there. It has really slowed down for him. And again, we’re June 9th or 10th, but I got high expectations for him. He’s always gonna fight. He’s not gonna say much. He’s very intelligent. When you’re very intelligent like that, he’s big. He’s as athletic. He’s done some kind of freaky stuff the spring around the edge, the top of his rush that you’re like, ‘Oh, wow, that’s pretty nice to see.’ “

The pats should add an EDGE but I think Ponder is going to be a factor. He had some nice wins vs. Tristan Wirfs & Garrett Bolles. They might’ve found a Shaq Barrett UDFA type EDGE. I won’t be surprised if he starts week 1.

I feel pretty good about Ponder. Doesn’t seem like the media are expecting much in the way of contributions from him.

My mistake. I didn't realize that both Landry and Jacas had moved to Off the Ball Linebacker. I thought they were Edge players. But given that you are the only person who is able to divine what conversations take place inside the front offices I will defer to you.

Who is going to replace them at Edge?

This ^ makes no sense.

We’re talking “edge,” which really isn’t a position.

Landry, Ponder, Jacas, Swinson at OLB.

Milton Williams and Dremont Jones more traditional DE’s.

I don’t see the ”thin” here unless some of these guys have already been IR’d…. are you privy to inside information?

how long is Jacas out and how long until he is acclimated? week 1? week 4? 8?
will Landry be 100%? when?
once we know, then we can discuss thin
