OT: Travis Hunter now officially a full time CB

He's a bust.

I think you mean Campbell. I mistakenly typed Drake at first too, and corrected it. Drake played for Mayo. It was Mayo that foolishly won the last game of the season even though Maye did not play.

I doubt the team picking #1 or #2 would have taken Campbell. The Titans wanted Cam Ward, and the Jags wanted Travis Hunter. No worry of them selecting Campbell, and we could have picked up two extra 1st round picks.
Oops…

Looking back and saying “what if” only brings misery. Nobody thinks of the worse alternative, only what they could have had.

Yup. Hindsight is never good, but Mayo screwed up that one. Big time.

I still maintain he did it on purpose and he screwed the Pats good. He knew he was getting fired or else he would've thrown the game like Buffalo was doing to secure the #1 overall pick.

This is another reason why I don't think we'll ever see Mayo re-emerge in the NFL. He's blackballed and would be lucky to get a LB coaching job.

You might be right. I had not thought of that.
Not to mention his wife was potentially a big problem as well threating to sue the Patriots Lol.

You know things are bad when Mayo can't score a job with former coaching colleague Brian Flores. Even he wants no part of that as he's been rehabbing his own image as well which wasn't exactly his fault.

If they’d drafted Patrick Paul in round two the year prior they could use the three on another player instead of a tackle.

We could do this all day. I’m looking forward to this upcoming draft. I hope they stick to athletes, blue collar is nice, but some more blue chip athletes would be better.

The Pats simply trade down from the #1 pick to the #3 pick, draft Campbell AND pick up two extra #1 picks while trading down. Not hard.
If they do that. Assuming they do is just your guess.

I think its a good smart move for him. I think he will be a better corner than a WR as he was in college. I'm sure they will have some offensive packages for him.

What is beyond dumb is winning our last game of the 2024 season. If we lost that game, the 2025 Top 5 pick and the 2026 1st would be the Pats.
To be fair the Pats were only in that position in week 17 because the Giants won the previous week.

I wonder if they beat themselves up over that on THEIR message boards?

So they gave up the 5th overall pick in 2025, plus #24 in 2026, for a CB? Seems pricey.

I bet the combination of Jahdae Barron and KC Conception would look really good to Jaguars fans right now, if there are any.

I never fully understood his insane hype last year.

With 96 receptions they clearly thought they were getting two players - the main one being a premier WR given his 96 receptions in college

If they'd traded back and taken McMillan at 8 they'd have a guy with 70 catches or could have picked up Egbuka (63 catches) at 19 - instead they had Hunter with 28 catches and no first round pick this year.

I always felt the only way you were ever going to make Hunter worth his draft position was to try to make him an elite player on one side of the ball and only use him sparingly or not at all on the other side of the ball until he is developed. This playing him both ways was always a recipe for disaster.

I thought it was a stupid trade that the Jags made. I just wish the Pats were in position to trade back with them.

I seem to recall that there was a vocal contingent here that wanted Hunter. And they could not be talked into believing he was only going to be able to play one position in the NFL.

If he maxed out his talent on offense he would be Devonta Smith. If he maxed out his talent on defense he’d be Asante Samuel Sr…. good on both counts. Not worth the trade the previous regime in Jacksonville made. Two firsts and a second is highway robbery.

You don’t sell the house for small guys…

Not a bad thing since we got Drake instead of Caleb, looking back I would of been so mad if we got Caleb instead of Drake.
Wrong Draft.

After an Injured a Rookie year??
His hype was completely unwarranted. He wasn't very good prior to whatever injury he had and the media was already throwing the "bust" label around. He may turn out to be a serviceable CB at best.
