Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
Some of you are too short sighted no offence. Think of the A.J. Brown acquisition like this: we get Brown then Draft a guy like a Ted Hurst for Brown to mentor. Wouldn't it be nice to have a guy like Brown teaching our youngster in the fold?? AJB is going to be 29 he has at least Three good years left. S Diggs had over 1000yds @ age 32; Three years is a long time in Today's NFL.
The good this is we have a real bonafide alpha whos in charge and running the show in M Vrabel. Not the deer in headlights Jerod rust show or 3 stooges show when BB had Jugdge and Patricia.
We have real leadership and real coaching.. if Vrabel is pursuing AJ as we know to be true then he knows what he's doing.. the cap space will be used correctly.. RK didn't become a billionaire by not making smart decisions.. build the roster, coach the players up and allow the cap people that RK employs to worry about cap dollars.

I'm not arguing that he isn't an outstanding receiver who may have a few very good/great years left. I just think the cap space and picks could be used more effectively elsewhere. It's also a legit concern that he seems to be trying to force his way into a trade; I don't think he's a Randy-Moss-level talent who just had a bad rap for his effect on a locker-room.

We're probably not going to agree on this so let's just let it play out. If you want the last word, that's fine with me. It's unlikely I'll change my mind but will admit my error during the Duck Boat Parade with A.J. carrying the Lombardi in February 2027.
We cool man... I just want what's best for Maye. Look at who his peers are throwing to: Penix Jr. to London - JJ McCarthy to J Jefferson - Caleb to Rome Odunze and others - Jayden Daniels to T McLaurin now Bo Nix to Waddle. You see the disparity regarding Maye's options?? One would have to be blind like Stevie Wonder or Ray Charles to not see that.

I know Twin: Mike Vrabel is not leaving Drake Maye out to dry.

If the Pats have a down year in 2026, a 2nd round pick in 2027 is an overpay IMO.

I still don't want them to trade for him, I just think that's reasonable compensation.

That's much closer to what I think they would give up, and the reason no deal has been made. That's all he's worth now.
Nah. Thus is just posturing by NE in reply to Roseman's demand for a 1st Rd plus more. They will meet in the middle for just the 2027 1st Rd.

If we have a good draft and get Brown, we are unlikely to have a down year.
Agreed, but with just the right (well, wrong) injuries, we'd be trading a top 10 pick for a 28 year old WR with knee issues.

I've said multiple times in this thread there are WRs in this league I would take that chance for. AJ Brown is nowhere near that list.

I think it has always been a 2nd offered for AJ. No way in my opinion that they will change that. I still can't make up my mind if it would be a good trade or not. Hope Vrabel and Wolf are a bit more sure than I am.

Huge A.J. Brown News.... at this hour, A.J. Brown is still not a Patriot.

If we have a good draft and get Brown, we are unlikely to have a down year.
Yep, it would be hard to have a very bad year at that point. They have a lot of draft picks this year, so will most likely add a lot of depth which is one of the weaknesses of the team. If they plug their one other glaring weakness at edge via a high draft selection then they should be fine.

It’s easy to say “all it takes is an injury to Drake”, but they signed DeVito, who is a high floor backup with years of experience in the offense. Even if he has to start a bunch of games, they can still be competitive. Injuries to the OL could be a problem, but the most likely candidate is AVT which would just leave them with Ben Brown starting who arguably played better than Wilson at LG in 2025. Etc, etc. And if they don’t have terrible injury luck and add these pieces then they will have a pretty decent year even with a tougher schedule, meaning their 2nd round pick is in the high 50s or even 60s.

Trips to SB:
Williams with Odunze: 0
Daniels with McLaurin: 0
Nix with Waddle: TBD

Thinking in April that one player is going to change the course of a franchise is Jetes thinking.
And no need for the "blind" talk. I'm too busy "clutching my pearls." But:
  • Stevie Wonder a huge fan of the Lions and, by appearing at SB XXV, did something Williams, Daniels and Nix haven't: stepped on a field during a SB game
  • Ray Charles not as big a fan as Stevie Wonder, but also stepped on a field during a SB game by performing pregame at SB XXXV.
So, let's agree to disagree. Bookmark this and call me out when A.J. Brown lifts a Lombardi for the Pats.

20+ pages longer than the yearlong Jetes bashing thread and STILL going strong. I think I've turned the corner on this thread and can see it at a hundred plus, maybe by the draft and certainly by the end of May. What a letdown it will be if he's back with the Eagles in 2026. A scenario with ultimately makes the most sense.

And as an aside, a second in 27 is more than enough compensation for the Eagles. Granted, at his best, AJB is a top 10 WR, but he comes at a premium salary and some chronic injury issues that he's lived with... thus far. He also comes with about a 3 year sell by date. Maybe to close the deal we'll have to throw in a player. I'd give them Chism. Douglas might be too big a throw in for a guy going into his 2nd year in the JMD offense

By the time June 1 arrives, we’ll be so tired of the “potential” AJ Brown acquisition that we’ll be thrilled signing N’Keal Harry to his Fifth-Year Option!

Posturing it may be, but I see no way we give up a first. Vrabel is a strong character, no way he will cave in.

Some of you are too short sighted no offence. Think of the A.J. Brown acquisition like this: we get Brown then Draft a guy like a Ted Hurst for Brown to mentor.

Some of you are too simple-minded no offence (sic)

The idea that a guy like AJ Brown would "mentor" any receiver who might one day replace him is some of the most childish NFL fan wish fulfillment jerkoff fodder I can imagine.

Veteran players acting as mentors to youngsters is pretty common in the NFL.

For the position of QB where there can only be one player on the field at a time, it still happens, although one can understand it being a very competitive room. Drew Bledsoe helped Tom Brady learn the ropes. Jacoby Brissett mentored Drake Maye. etc.

When we look at Wide receivers this is a position where anywhere from 2-5 of them (in an empty backfield set) can be on the field at the same time. So mentoring the youngsters doesn't necessarily mean that a mentored player will be a direct replacement as the field will be shared between multiple players depending on the playcall.

The primary concern with getting AJ Brown would be how does he perform on the field and is he a good teammate in the locker room. By most reports he is considered a good teammate and Vrabel knows Brown's character because he coached him in the past.
