Do you think we’re done in FA?

By done, you mean done signing $13M+ AAV players?
What I probably should’ve prefaced this with was to say signing anyone that would be more than a bottom of the roster/camp bodies.

Guys who are either starters or higher end backups.

Post-draft (and June 1) and before camp is where the real GM money is made.

Is Maxx Crosby or AJ Brown going to be here before the draft? No.

Yeah, past the trade targets like Brown. More just signings

Yep we're done.
Put a towel on the 2026 season's head, it's over.

Yeah not for me, imma gonna need to see the towel being worn. After all, it's the nuance of just how that towel is worn that tells you just how 'over' things really are

It always bothered me that Ninkovich was often referred to by Many here on Patsfans as Stinkovich.
Always saw him as a solid player.

It just occurred to me that the late lamented Tonga was signed AFTER camp started, so there are always so late "not moving the needle" player that is signed late and ends up being a contributor if not a starter. This year after 6/1 we MIGHT actually see a true needle mover if AJB trade gets done. As for compensation I think we'd have to give them a 27 one and maybe a 5th in 28. Originally I wouldn't give up a one, but given that we get a free year we might have to up it to a one NEXT year

And YES, Ninko was a solid if unspectacular player for us for a bunch of years and an example of a GREAT late FA signing.

I could see them considering signing Nijoku since Vrabel has a relationship with him the one year he consulted in Cleveland. But my guess is that they are going to draft a TE in one of the first few rounds.

If they fall out of the AJ Brown race, I could see them potentially trading for Greenard in Minnesota. But most I see the most likely scenario being the Pats trade for Brown, the Eagles trade for Greenard, and the Pats draft a edge rusher in the first round.

Otherwise, I think they will still add depth pieces along the way, but I am not sure any of them will be people of note.

I don't know, Bob. I think there will be a couple of guys we sign after the draft that will end up being contributors during the season. This goes back a while, but off the top of my head, guys like Mark Anderson and Rob Ninkovitch were late pick ups who became key contributors. I was at the practice after Ninko signed as a potential long snapper. I have a clear memory of watching him come over from working with the ST's guys, and kind of wander over to where the LB's were working and started to do some drills. We all know how that all turned out. He never DID ever do a long snap for us. So was that a bad signing? '
I was at the preseason game in DC that year. Remember two plays, for being impressed by some guy’s effort chasing them downfield and sideline to sideline. The motor, level of effort, impressed me that I came home and looked up who #50 was. No surprise to me that he became consistently memorable over a long successful career. I’d be happy with another such sign8ng.

Haters gotta hate.

Reflects more on them than they’ll ever know.

He was pretty bad the first couple seasons in NE which is probably where the name originated from. He was also playing on defenses that were pretty bad in general until 2014. Nobody was really making an impact until they drafted Chandler Jones and Hightower and later traded for Talib.

Pretty much…. Do you see anyone still out there worth +13M AAV? Or 4.3% of our cap?

No. I agree with you.

I just don't think that this answers the question as to whether we will sign more free agents.

We signed Bradbury, Gibbens and Elliss after this time last year. I would like similar players this year.

Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe **** the JEST.

I think we are pretty much done with FA signings. Now have to concentrate heavily on the draft.

There are still good players out there
I think they were asking more about FAs of note. Guys who will see significant snaps. To that answer I would say.... probably not. Though they may wait till after the draft. And maybe after June. For not until either one of those 2 things happen i wouldn't expect anything.

While people always say BPA... usually there isn't much difference and you are picking people within the same tier. In that case do you want to pick the one who will see time for you or not?

I disagree with the 2nd part of this. When you are picking at 31 the top offensive tackles, edge , cornerbacks and WR's have usually been cleaned out, sometimes with as may as 6-8 at a position gone, that leaves teams either reaching for the 6th, 7th, or 8th best player at that need, or the top center, 2nd or 3rd best guard, sane for safety, off the ball LB, RB or TE. So you are clearly deciding between BPA or need in that situation.

They’ll probably sign a depth edge guy or some line depth at some point. In terms of anyone notable they’re probably done. As far as WR I think aside from a mid round draft pick this is the room they’re going into camp with.

Potential AJ Brown move aside, curious if we’re done dipping into the FA pool. We’ve been a little quiet the last couple days.

Not a ton left on the market, but still some potential vets at every level on defense still available. We could still use more depth on the DL, LB and CB. I wouldn’t hate bringing in a Daquan Jones as a potential 1 year rental for the DT depth.

Offensively could still use OT and RB depth as well.

Wondering if Wolf/Vrabel want to largely fill that out via draft from here, though. Have 11 picks as it stands. I could understand that approach when you have a couple major extensions coming.
This is typical of FA each season for all NFL teams the legal tampering period is likely where the day 1 deals are done.. I really like the moves we've made THUS FAR..

RB Gillaim great pick up.. we were 20th in red zone efficiency last season and one of the worst on 3rd and short or goal line scoring. He helps in this area and also pass protection and being able to help in the run game getting to the 2nd level..

Edge Jones... obvious need and a guy who can set the edges and rush from the outside and the interior.. great pick up he serves a need and obvious not done at this position

TE hill another great pick up blocking TE that has the attitude and mentality you want in your TE.. a guy who will also help in the run game and pass protection..

Vera- Tucker excellent signing guy who's played at OT and both Guard spots.. when healthy easily a top 10 OL in the league. Will drama help Campbell and Wilson and the running game as well.

WR Doubs another great pick up.. a guy who runs excellent routes, has great hands, tough and high character. He will be pivotal for Drake on 3rd downs and excellent against Man coverage.

My favorite of all..

Safety Kevin Byard a guy fresh of an all pro season and led the league In interceptions.. a proven playmaker and credits Vrabel for him becoming an all pro multiple times in his career.. with Gonzo, Jones, Davis and Woodson this secondary has the potential to be the best in the league.. this was the best pick up of all so far for us.. he strikes fear in QBs trying to challenge the deep half of the field even at 32 he's still elite.

There will definitely be guys still signed who will be on the 53 and playing key roles. Lot of free agents still out there.

It's a simple numbers game. Currently the Pats have just 64 players under contract add 10 or so draft picks and that makes us need to sign around 16 more free agents to get to 90. Now most of those will be camp bodies and depth, but in the past, we've signed significant contributors as late as June.

So no, we haven't done with FA. Not by a long shot
Ken - Pats have 69 players under contract. OvertheCap has us at 70, but they still have Tavai listed. With 11 draft picks currently, that leaves 10 slots for other FA or UDFA.

That was Captain Stone who coined that idiocy..
