Player Signing Romeo Doubs Signs

well, geez, edelman and gronk is a pretty high standard! Gronk is the TE GOAT (F Kelce, not really close). But Edelman at his peak was basically uncoverable. Agree that we need a young TE for hunter (but he ain't dead yet) ... maybe chism is the slot guy?
I think we would have seen more of Chism last year, if he had wood to burn. But even Edelman took a few years to fully develop, so who knows. I am just done with Douglas

and Gronk is important here because some discourse of "We never had a true #1" seems to forget that Brady had the GoAT TE to throw to for all of his 2nd half of his career.

I didn’t say a single word about any of those players not being an upgrade.
So we've upgraded 3 positions on offense but the organisation aren't helping Maye? Sure Doubs isn't the next level no1 everyone would like but once Pierce resigned with the colts who would you have signed?

Jay, are you on drugs? Are you ok?

Trusting Patsfans2's views on football only works if you want to impress your friends with how little you know about it. His most current takes have him insisting that Calvin Ridley is worth his 92 million contract( 17 Rec., 303 yards, 0 touchdowns.) And he wants the Patriots to go after Brandon Aiyuk, who just signed a 4 year $120 million$$$ deal and then refused to show up for work with the 49ers. Patsfans 2 insists Aiyuk was getting the " 49er stink off of himself," I assume that stink is the smell of the massive signing bonus they gave him to drive his car 100 mph past their facility.
Wow! I'm living rent free in your head.

Do ever wonder why on earth would GB let him walk?
You can say this about any player that we ever sign. Why do any of their teams ever let them go?

Packers have a lot of receivers right now. Watson/Reed/Golden are the starters right now. Watson and Reed have good NFL production so far, in line with Doubs. Golden was a 1st rounder last year. Behind them, they have Savion Williams (3rd rounder last year that had limited production but they liked enough to draft - their Kyle Williams in a sense), Dontayvion Wicks (solid depth guy in line with what Hollins gives us), and then Bo Melton (roster worthy player but nothing crazy).

They're kind of in a situation like we are now. Without Doubs they have 6 NFL roster worthy receivers on their depth chart but the top end talent arguably isn't there. It wasn't smart for them to sign Doubs to further increase that number of players but still lacking top end talent. Us getting Doubs put us in a fairly similar position to them now. We're now in a spot where the depth chart is mostly full such that unless it's a rookie you're adding for upside or a SERIOUS vet addition it just wouldn't make sense.

Bill thought Smith-Schuster was a better player at the same price.
Exactly, people get let go for all sorts of reasons. GB have a lot of WR of similar production in Reed, Golden and Watson so paying Doubs doesn't make sense.

Pierce and Brown were obvious.

Pierce never made it to free agency, and Philly still wants too much for Brown, and they haven't missed on him because he's not off of the market yet, and the Patriots are still the favorites to get him. Besides that you can't miss on players in free agency who aren't free agents.

Diggs ended up playing the slot most of the time, and Pop was there when Diggs wasn't. Vrabel seems pretty confident Chism will do a good job taking it over.

Why did we let Myers walk?
There's conflicting stories. One is that the FO pushed Bill into signing Schuster because he had better YAC ability than Meyers. Meyers story is that the Pats let him go over "$1M". He didn't elaborate whether it was per year or total. I'm guessing it's per year.

Regardless, Meyers had serious issues in beating man coverage much like Diggs this season.

No.
Why did the Raiders trade Moss to us?
Why did Miami let Welker go?
Why did SD cut Rodney?
Why did we not resign Thuney?
and on, and on, and on....

Douglas is going into his 4th year.

Edelman and Troy Brown did not break out until their 5th years.

In Demario's first 3 years with the Patriots, he caught 146 receptions for 1629 yards.
In Wes Welker's first 3 years in the NFL, he caught 96 receptions for 1021 yards.

That doesn't mean Douglas is going to become Julian or Wes or Troy Brown. For me it means that if the coaches think he has the ability to become a possession guy for us, he could break out in his 4th or 5th year. It's happened before. Multiple times.

Of course, it could also mean that the coaches do not know how to use him and so they release him, like Welker was let go, and he goes on to play well elsewhere.

We can safely say that Callahan has ties to Belichick, because he reported that. Only he wrote that before the season when there was not yet enough evidence to realize what a mistake it was to let Meyers go.

Or, like Callahan said, they went with the metric guys who said S-S is more valuable because he gives more YAC, even though Belichick though move-the-sticks Meyers makes more of an impact.

Bill always did what Bill wanted to do, no one ever made Bill do anything. The claim that " the front office made Bill" do anything is 100% ********. Bill was the " front office," everyone worked under him. He's the GOAT coach, but he was also the biggest control freak I have ever seen. Part of that made him the GOAT, the other part, the hubris, was his biggest flaw.
