Player Signing Romeo Doubs Signs

Some posters here would be pissed if a prime Jerry Rice walked through the door as our new free agent WR…
Doubs is not Jerry Rice. Not even close. This is a straw man argument.

Let's be realistic. Doubs has been a mid producer. He doesn't offer game breaking speed. He's a possession WR who could hopefully be decent at moving the chains. That's it. A mediocre player who could be a #2.

But don't we already have plenty of potential #2 quality wideouts with the likes of Boutte, Hollins, and Kyle Williams?

And if all of them were currently free agents, all of them would cost us more to sign than their current cap hits.

Doubs will replace Diggs role. Have you seen any of the 3 guys you mention coming even close to running Diggs routes? They haven’t.

We are still looking at securing a top WR.
======
That being said, the current WR corps in as good as last year and will probably perform better with an improved OL, FB and with better familiarity with the system. We will be fine with Doubs over the next 2-3 years instead of Diggs. Also, we won't need to get reports of court cases.

No problem. 17 mil is a great number to get out of a 1000 yard, 100 catches and 8 TD player.

Total steal.
You do realize guys like Edleman and Welker would be steals in today's NFL if they only cost $17 million, right?

Hollins is not a #2 WR. Not has Kyle Williams shown to he anything more than a WR#4 that come out and run a go routes.

Boutte is the closest thing to a #2 WR were have. Doubs is a legit #2 being paid accordingly.

Still would be great to get AJ Brown but Doubs is currently the best WR on the roster

When did I compare Doubs to Jerry Rice? My point is that some posters are never pleased, no matter who is signed. It’s a reality on PatsFans.

Doubs is what he is…a WR2 with potential to grow with Maye in a McDaniels offense.

What WR1s were available in this FA cycle?

- Pickens was probably the only true WR1 and was franchised by Dallas so he’s wasn’t really available

- DJ Moore isn’t a WR1

- Alec Pierce isn’t a WR1

- none of the other WRs signed are #1s

The only other WR1 who could be available is Brown but the Eagles seem to be playing hardball so who knows what will happen there. Besides, I'm not sure he’s still a legit WR1…he’s lost a step or two.

Please tell us what WR who makes 17 or less and isn’t on a rookie contract you would have us sign?
Oh and they need to be a FA too.
Enlighten us.

Jared Wilson was wearing the guardian cap as well after his concussion issues.
I'm surprised they can't figure out a better design for these, but if I was making millions to play NFL, I'd probably wear one so I could enjoy my time after football as much as physically possible.

They look goofy, but to make fun of guys wearing them to prevent long term brain injuries is asinine.

If they all wore them they wouldn’t look so funny. When you see Tua posturing on the field. Players committing suicide. Should start at HS to be mandatory and then let College and NFL follow suit

I'm not super educated on them but I've heard they are mainly designed for players who take a lot of small, regular hits to the head but not designed to stop the concussions that come from big hits. So it might just be by position group that they should be wearing them. But I'd rather they were more cautious than less.

Yeah I don't get it either.

Believe it or not, I actually wasn't all that worried about the esthetic of James White's uniform when he was scoring the game winning TD in Super Bowl 51.

Brandon Aiyuk will be released soon after sitting out a season. He would be a year removed from his recent injury: he wouldn't cost us any compensation and can play all over. Aiyuk plays like a Younger Diggs.

You have made a half dozen false equivalencies that I have literally not addressed. There's a reason for it.

Neither one of those guys would be paid 17 mil in today's league. They'd be pushing 30.

What's your point?

Is it he's not over paid or that he's not trash?

Is it both?

The pats are the only team in the league who thought he was worth 17 mil a year.

Anyway. You guys have lost the point. I'm not worried about his damn contract.

I'm worried about him being the number one.

He's not good enough to be the 1. Not one of you can say he is. You know he's not.
