NFL News Maxx Crosby to Ravens (Update - Ravens Backing Out of the Deal)

Share the latest NFL news from around the league here.
This will have a huge impact.

No contract is enforceable until it is signed, and deals do fail because of medicals.

But ...

Teams operate in good faith, and dozens of moves were impacted by this agreement. You can't reverse everything.

A lot of people and teams will be very unhappy over how this played out.
My understanding is that there’s not actually any physical that was failed, he can’t even take one because he’s still rehabbing. The Ravens basically said “our doctor thinks your rehab isn’t far enough along so you fail”.

Technically 'agreed in principle' until tomorrow.

I think it all depends as to what Crosby's 'medical issue' is. Crosby's not playing for Vegas again, so it's in the Raiders' court.
Yeah, nobody has actually been 'signed' at this point.

NFL will step in and force the trade through
No they won't. Because there wasn't any trade. Just an agreement in principle.

This is ****ed up on several levels. Many teams FA acquisition strategies have been upended because they made this deal. To renege on it now is bush league.

I guess that's why it's called "legal tampering".

I wonder if they back out of the Linderbaum deal. I would.
yup and no agent would deal with you again
========
The Raiders can make that choice.
======
More likely is that they
1) trade Crosby tomorrow for a much lower price.
2) wait and trade Crosby before the draft. This might require a restructure or two.
3) not trade with BAL for a decade
4) give a medical report to the league and players' union to prevent future BS by BALT

In any case, this too will pass. Crosby won't play for the Raiders this season and all the other trades will be executed. If not, LV will be screwed, in addition to BAL.

Well that settles it, if his agent says he’s ahead of schedule on his rehab, who are we to question it?….
anyone who wants to trade for Crosby should have their doctors visit him. This shouldn't be hard for a team to figure out. If LV won't give access then there can be no deal.

Not surprised at all.

New England means nothing to Tim Brady.

I want to start a petition to unretire 12

dude has really turned into an un-likeable *******.
Hey Pape! Even my wife thinks that Brady has been a total DB even before this.

If they sign Hendrickson tomorrow, it's not going to look great for them.
I disagree. To me, the fact that Crosby has been silent on the matter says that the rumor that Crosby failed the physical is legit. That the Ravens backing out is justified.

So, the Ravens moving on to someone else just makes sense.

What a load of malarkey. Rehabbing an injury doesn't prevent a player from having a physical done. It doesn't prevent an orthopedist from doing an MRI on Crosby's knee, doing the physical testing of the knee and putting together a adjusted timeline for rehab for the Ravens to evaluate.

Doubtful. If it was contingent on passing a physical and he failed the physical then that’s that. They’d have to prove that it was a shoddy physical or the reason for failure was not reasonable.
Everybody knew he wasn’t passing a physical with the injury he had at the end of the year.

it has nothing to do about Crosby physical really. the the Ravens made the trade before the tampering window. They didn’t expect to lose so many players in FA so they used a technicality and the only option they had to keep their draft picks.

I'm not buying this at all. Consider the following:

The Ravens hired a new coach in Jesse Minter and their old coach is with the NY Giants.
Minter and DeCosta (the Ravens GM) should have sat down and immediately prioritized their roster.
The Ravens had 46 guys signed going into the tampering period.
The Ravens knew they had 25 Free Agents. The breakdown being 20 UFA, 1 RFA and 4 ERFA.
The Ravens should have known exactly where they stood with all 20 UFA before they made the trade for Crosby.

Van Noy is 35. Brent Urban is 35. Hopkins is 34. They're going to be the lowest priority if they're re-signed at all.
The fact that Ricard wasn't retained says that Minter either wants to get younger at FB or go with empty sets for Henry. Ricard signing with Harbaugh shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.
The Ravens knew as soon as they made the trade for Crosby, they weren't bringing back Jones.
The Ravens knew they weren't bringing back Faalele. Which is why they signed Simpson.
Likely let it be known he had no intention of re-signing with the Ravens. That he went to the Giants is no surprise.
Despite being named an All-Pro, the Ravens couldn't come to an agreement with Stout. Maybe he felt loyal to Harbaugh since he signed with the Giants.
Kolar was their 3rd TE. They didn't come to an agreement with him when they could have.
Jake Hummel (LB) was a special teamer for the Ravens the last 3 years. Clearly the Ravens told him to look elsewhere. Otherwise, they'd have signed him.
The only SURPRISE would be Linderbaum. But the GM should have known where they stood with him since they hadn't gotten a deal done despite having a year since they declined the 5th yr option.

If I can understand them losing these guys, then their GM should have known this as well. If he didn't, he should be fired. Immediately.

Yeah, I have since learned a bit more about the situation and agree with you
