Everybody knew he wasn’t passing a physical with the injury he had at the end of the year.
it has nothing to do about Crosby physical really. the the Ravens made the trade before the tampering window. They didn’t expect to lose so many players in FA so they used a technicality and the only option they had to keep their draft picks.
I'm not buying this at all. Consider the following:
The Ravens hired a new coach in Jesse Minter and their old coach is with the NY Giants.
Minter and DeCosta (the Ravens GM) should have sat down and immediately prioritized their roster.
The Ravens had 46 guys signed going into the tampering period.
The Ravens knew they had 25 Free Agents. The breakdown being
20 UFA, 1 RFA and 4 ERFA.
The Ravens should have known exactly where they stood with all 20 UFA before they made the trade for Crosby.
Van Noy is 35.
Brent Urban is 35.
Hopkins is 34. They're going to be the lowest priority if they're re-signed at all.
The fact that
Ricard wasn't retained says that Minter either wants to get younger at FB or go with empty sets for Henry. Ricard signing with Harbaugh shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.
The Ravens knew as soon as they made the trade for Crosby, they weren't bringing back
Jones.
The Ravens knew they weren't bringing back
Faalele. Which is why they signed Simpson.
Likely let it be known he had no intention of re-signing with the Ravens. That he went to the Giants is no surprise.
Despite being named an All-Pro, the Ravens couldn't come to an agreement with
Stout. Maybe he felt loyal to Harbaugh since he signed with the Giants.
Kolar was their 3rd TE. They didn't come to an agreement with him when they could have.
Jake Hummel (LB) was a special teamer for the Ravens the last 3 years. Clearly the Ravens told him to look elsewhere. Otherwise, they'd have signed him.
The only SURPRISE would be
Linderbaum. But the GM should have known where they stood with him since they hadn't gotten a deal done despite having a year since they declined the 5th yr option.
If I can understand them losing these guys, then their GM should have known this as well. If he didn't, he should be fired. Immediately.
