Player Signing Romeo Doubs Signs

Buffalo gave them a 2nd and a 5th. Buffalo had a more advantageous 2nd and 5th. We would have had to give a 2nd and a 4th. We went to the SB but are still rebuilding and need those picks to keep some youth at a lower cost to fill this team roster
No. Buffalo only gave them a second. They got back Moore and a fifth

Agreed. Good analogy. Diggs was also a emotional leader.. that's an excessive amount of energy to expend.. then having to go out on the field and perform
Seriously it is a lot of energy to burn with the way he led the WR room and team with his speeches and sideline energy. I think a lot of players are on the program and fall off around the same time of year.

He also has very good hands, when you watch his tape there are a lot of balls that are behind him or above him that he just snatches out of the air effortlessly. We all know Maye has some balls that go off the target on him at times, especially early in games, so this may help counter that.
Great points Ross... and I'm sure Vrabel josh and stretch saw this on film and that probably really got them to go hard at him.. watching some coverage on NFL network on this Doubs told people in his circle he wanted to come here and Play with Drake.. huge pick up.. really excited about seeing him and Drake operate.

How much are the guarantees and what’s the cap hit going to be when the Pats cut him next year?
Well maybe wait until the full details of the contract are released.

Damn the age, Diggs is better.
LOL. Damn the facts. Delusions are just so much prettier.

Digs was better last year, but the only player immune to the drop-off-the-cliff reality was Tom Brady. To be honest, I was in favor of keeping Diggs around for another year, if the price was reasonable; but there were risks there bearing upon his age and upon his habit of turning to neurotic **** in his second year wherever he has traveled. So I think we are probably in a better place, and certainly in a safer one, where we now are as opposed to where we would have been had we gone with Diggs. I do wonder whether we could have ended with Diggs and Doubs (has a snappy ring to it, eh?); but that water is well over the dam and headed out to sea.

What am I being delusional about? Yes Doubs is clearly younger than Diggs, is he better, I’d say no, that’s my opinion.

4/70. That's 17m per year.

Doubs feels like a mid #2 type of WR. I mean he's younger and cheaper than Diggs but he's no #1 WR.

This move feels very mid.
It should feel mid. It's for a guy who most likely will be 60/800/5. That what $17m looks like for a WR2.

$30m is for a top 10 WR1

The 2026 season hasn't happened yet

Younger doesn’t mean better.
No - but likely Diggs has only one more good year left in him. Doubs is also a bigger body and should provide more help in the red zone and in run blocking. Not to take anything away from Diggs who did a great job last year, but that ship has sailed.

I guess the delusion would be that the difference in age does not matter. I half agree with you, as I said, but the idea that Diggs' age shouldn't factor in just doesn;t make sense.

I'm going on record, feel free to grudgepost me with this.

Doubs will exceed Diggs' production from 2025 (assuming no AJ Brown or Olave add, of course). Book it.

It's like the naysayers haven't been following the Pats at all the last 25 years. This team has won 6 Superbowls WITHOUT having a #1 WR. In fact, one of the major tenets of the offense over those years was NOT to have a #1 WR. The philosophy was to spread the ball around to all the available receivers, so the defense can't focus one or two targets and take them out of the game like Bill used to do so often to great effect.

If 25 years is too long a time for you to remember, how about we go back one year. You know the season we surprised the entire league by going to the ****ing Superbowl. The year we had a top 3 passing offense and no clear #1. This is what is going to happen as long as Josh is running the offense.

We should be rejoicing at getting a 6'2 WR who is known for having great hands and the knack of creating space at the point of attack. Steve Smith's analysis SHOULD be eye opening for the doubters. Unfortunately, the "cult" is so locked into their own little world that no one other than Randy Moss level WR will ever satisfy their obsessive need to find that #1 WR, whether we need him or not.

Now we still need to add a LB, TE and Edge to the mix before the draft, so the draft can be all about the quality of player rather than an immediate need. So resign Chassion, add Chenal and Njoku and pat yourself on a solid FA period
I disagree that Belicheck didnt want a number #1 WR. He tried and failed many times.

He didnt believe in overpaying WRs which is why he let David Givens and Dieon Branch leave.

Belicheck spent numerous high 2nd rd picks and 1st rd picks at the position. Drafting guys loke Bethel Johnson, Chad Jackson, Aaron Dobson, Nkeal Harry and trading a 1st rd pick for Brandin Cooks.

He made Randy Moss the second highest paid WR in 2008 after what he did in 2007 when he was apart of the greatest team in NFL history.

While you can win without having an elite 1 WR, you can certainly win with one as well. They are amazing for offenses and it helped the 49ers win 4 superbowls.

age is just a number, I wonder if Randy has any interest in lacing them up

I stand corrected. Thank You. I would give up a 2nd for AJB but not Moore. I just value high draft picks at this time of the rebuild.

Damn the age, Diggs is better.

Saying "damn the age" in football is like saying "damn the mileage" on a K-Series engine with over 300,000 miles. An extremely durable, capable and well performing engine? Yes. If driven very aggressively for those 300,000, will it still be better than a lot? No.

The season is too damn long to sink comparable money into an aging receiver.

I don't grudge-post and I hope you are right. I think it's a good signing and he'll do well here with Drake throwing to him.

I'm not bashing the guy. 60/800/5 is not bad at all. The reality is that is what $17m is for a WR2.
