Player Signing Romeo Doubs Signs

At this moment, would you rather have Alec Pierce or DJ Moore?
Pierce. Moore is a bigger injury risk and any Bears fan will let you know there are stretches where he just disappears.

That wasn't a critique of Doubs. He's very Jakobi Meyers'ish. I'm just talking about that element of quickness that gives you more potential for YAC.
That’s a solid comp. I look at Meyers as a 3 as well. I wouldn’t have given him that contract Jacksonville gave him either.

No. You didn't. You said the Pats need a #1 but sorta need a #2. Then you said Doubs is that guy, not actually referring to WHICH since you'd said BOTH.

This is what I actually said:

"Fact of the matter is, while the Pats need a WR1, they also kinda needed a WR2. Boutte and Williams could be those guys, but they have not proven it yet. Doubs IS that guy, and they got him right at or maybe even a little below market rate for that type of player on a fairly long contract at 4 years. Hollins was that guy in 2025, but he's getting pretty old, and you can't count on him to keep it up."

Which part is confusing?

He took a step back this year no doubt about it. I think it was partly due to injury and partly due to the addition of Diggs.
Huh? The Hamstring Injury that landed Douglas on the Injury report didn't happen until the end of the year.

Or do you think that there were lingering issues from his 2024 ankle injury where he didn't miss any time?

I wonder if it’s still worth going after a trade for BTJ if they think they can reclaim him as the speedster on the outside? Kind of a cheaper AJ Brown?

Typical WR move by this team. Miss out on all the coveted ones up for grabs and then settle for a mid tier option or a project coming off an injury.

I am guessing the Pats are in on trade talks for several WRs (Brown, BTJ, Olave, maybe others) and are leveraging all of the teams against each other. Signing Doubs also helps in their negotiations to lower their own urgency.

?

Who are these guys? Pierce went back to his team. Evans? Just no.

Doubs is sure handed runs excellent routes and had great size at 6'2.. he offers a different skill set than that of Boutte, pop.
He's the chain-mover they needed when they cut Diggs. The 7-yard hitch guy on 1st down. The guy that will put a headfake on some dogshit CB.

We're going to be very, very happy with this signing, I predict.

Gee. How about the fact that you don't ACTUALLY state what Doubs is. WR1 or WR2, Ross. You state that "Boutte and Williams could be those guys" which would refer to them being the #1 and #2 respectively. It doesn't refer to them both being the #2.

I truthfully do not think he is available. Leaking trade rumors by some teams create motivation. Why would they give up on a young promising reciever in his rookie contract unless he’s a malcontent. That red flag would leak out to other teams who would unjust their offer sheet if they would even offer anything. Just a hunch

I definitely get your point, but ultimately I think they need to improve at the Y most of all. I think the wisest option is simply to sign a new Y and put Henry at that "move TE"/TE2 spot, even if it's not a perfect fit for him, because ultimately it's probably only for a year anyway as his deal is about to expire. The alternative is signing a move TE instead like Okonkwo, but then leaving Henry in the Y, which is bad because he's a relatively bad blocker, and that's the biggest issue.
It's kind of pick your poison in a way. My thinking is that we lost our highest volume receiver in Diggs and a move TE like Okonkwo does a lot to fill that gap, along with Doubs who does some of that (but who I also think will be as much an upgrade over Hollins as he is a Diggs replacement). IMO, that's a more pressing need than better blocking at TE. I also think move TEs are tougher to draft than in line guys. A lot of those guys just flame out and Okonkwo is established as a solid option there. So I'd rather sign the proven vet for that role and look to the draft to eventually replace the Y.

This little conundrum is why I wanted to move on from Henry to a guy like Otton because then you wouldn't have that same level of concern going with a move TE vs. a 2nd Y, but oh well.

I believe they have thier ears tied to multiple talks.. signing Doubs I started to lean towards signing him yesterday... young at 26 has some injury history but was solid last season.. lots of upside with him. He's 6'2 sure handed, excellent route tree, crafty and gets open and strong is a willing blocker.. I'm feeling like with the addition of Gilliam at FB the running game should be significantly better and that opens up stuff for the wrs

I think what people are missing here is that Philly is now in a bind with brown, who wants to play in New England more than anything. And the Pattiots are managing their $$$ very well. Roseman is most certainly looking at a problem come summer, and the Patriots could still pull off a trade at a price more to their liking. They could throw Boutte into that deal instead of paying him, or they could trade Barmore to a team needing help at Defensive Tackle, and clear the money to bring Brown in. Doubs isn't getting "#1" money, he's being paid as a 2, so they could definitely work both players into the receiving room.

Bottom line, they have shored up the position for the time being, and still have the ability to improve it, which is a great way to handle needs in the offseason. They have addressed several real needs, and still have the vast majority of the offseason in front of them. IMO they are doing a great job, and they will continue to make intelligent decisions as they go forward.

Absolutely disagree. The core issue was letting him go. Then replacing him with garbage. And we all knew JJSS was trash.

It was a painful lesson to learn. One they should not repeat.

Even if you are right. I don't think Boutte is Meyers. Meyers was always a reliable chain mover. You needed a first down even with lesser QBs than Maye, you could rely on Meyers to move the chains.

Boutte can make elite plays here and there, but he hasn't been consistent.

I would trade the Jags Boutte and at least a third day pick for Meyers right now. But even so, I don't look at Meyers as an irreplaceable receiver.

I think they're all regurgitating the same crap from the same source.
It's the fact that the same source is speaking to three different journos that interests me.

I think you'll end up being a big fan of Doubs.
I'm curious if any of the haters actually watched him play.
I watched GB a lot the past few years.
Doubs is a good player, there were games where he made several big time catches and was easily their best WR.
He's not a #1 and isn't being paid like one.
It's not hard to figure out.....sorry, apparently it is hard for a lot of people.

If this is their answer to helping Drake the front office is a joke, would rather have Diggs if it weren’t to his legal issues.
