Player Signing Romeo Doubs Signs

Fact of the matter is, while the Pats need a WR1, they also kinda needed a WR2. Boutte and Williams could be those guys, but they have not proven it yet. Doubs IS that guy, and they got him right at or maybe even a little below market rate for that type of player on a fairly long contract at 4 years. Hollins was that guy in 2025, but he's getting pretty old, and you can't count on him to keep it up. This lets Hollins take a more natural role as a substitutional player, and lets Boutte and Williams find their natural place without the team being screwed if they don't take a step in 2026.

Having said that, they still need that elite top player, but they can still be functional in the absence of that player if the run game is solid and the OL is blocking well, which we should expect will be better w/ the additions of AVT and Gilliam as well as Wilson moving to center. I expect that if they do not trade for another WR, they will draft one.

How has Doubs shown himself to be "THAT GUY"? In 4 seasons:

Doubs has yet to crack 60 receptions.
Doubs has yet to crack 750 receiving yards.
Doubs is averaging 5 receiving TDs.

Boutte has 3 seasons under his belt. The issue I saw last year is that the Pats didn't call his number enough. Diggs (102), Henry (87), and Hollins (65) had more targets. Boutte was tied with Douglas at 46.. That's an underutilization on the part of the Pats. Boutte had 1 drop all year.

The problem I see with the move to bring in Doubs is that the money could have been better spent on Boutte, who is 2 years younger than Doubs and is still developing into an outside weapon..

Steve Smith on Doubs.

"He's an excellent #2 who can develop into a true # 1 because he has a lot of those traits".

If Doubs was going to "develop into a #1" he'd have done it by now..

Almost like you completely ignoring how a guy who was 35th in WR receiving yards could be a #3.
By your logic there should be anywhere between 64 and 95 WRs ahead of him.
Guess what, he’s not a number 3, it’s not difficult to figure out.

He's not a number 2.

Maybe on a **** team.

It doesn't take a lot to walk through those doors and be better than Boutte and pop Douglas.

That doesn't mean a whole lot to me.

Then you simply don’t sign a bad contract with a free agent. There are players out there. Hell I would have rather traded for Pittman.
Yeah like the Colts would trade with the Patriots and Josh McDaniel's. Was never going to happen. And please do tell who these players are that you are referencing. Some people live in fantasy land.

You're going to be in for a treat this year.

How many yards and receptions do you expect a WR2 to have?

Would have preferred swapping late rd picks for michael pittman jr but im good with this move. Raises the floor. Pats draft an X type in the draft. Im done with the AJ talk was never too keen on it anyway.

There is absolutely nothing the Patriots can do to satisfy the crybaby contingent of their fan base.
Half this board thinks we should have Justin Jefferson, AJ Brown, Trent Williams, and they ammo to trade up for a pass rusher. Too many on here think this os Madden where they get to play GM.

It's like the naysayers haven't been following the Pats at all the last 25 years. This team has won 6 Superbowls WITHOUT having a #1 WR. In fact, one of the major tenets of the offense over those years was NOT to have a #1 WR. The philosophy was to spread the ball around to all the available receivers, so the defense can't focus one or two targets and take them out of the game like Bill used to do so often to great effect.

If 25 years is too long a time for you to remember, how about we go back one year. You know the season we surprised the entire league by going to the ****ing Superbowl. The year we had a top 3 passing offense and no clear #1. This is what is going to happen as long as Josh is running the offense.

We should be rejoicing at getting a 6'2 WR who is known for having great hands and the knack of creating space at the point of attack. Steve Smith's analysis SHOULD be eye opening for the doubters. Unfortunately, the "cult" is so locked into their own little world that no one other than Randy Moss level WR will ever satisfy their obsessive need to find that #1 WR, whether we need him or not.

Now we still need to add a LB, TE and Edge to the mix before the draft, so the draft can be all about the quality of player rather than an immediate need. So resign Chassion, add Chenal and Njoku and pat yourself on a solid FA period
This is pretty misleading since Gronk was essentially the number 1 guy for 3 of those years. You also had the GOAT QB pulling the strings. The Pats don’t have a Gronk/Kelce type of TE or an Edelman type WR. They have 6 number 3s who on a good day could be a number 2. Sure it could work but is the offense better than it was last month? No. They need to figure out a way to get a true top option and get creative. Yes, the cap hit numbers aren’t out yet but it’s not going to give them a lot of room to do much. There are avenues where if the Pats do X then the move makes sense but the roster as comprised right now it doesn’t make sense to pay a borderline number 2 this money when you have Boutte on the roster already who gives you similar production.

Now if the move is to dangle Boutte and picks in a deal where you’re getting a WR 1 back then okay it kind of makes sense especially if you believe in Kyle Williams developing into a 2.

What do I think he's not a #2 and more like Kendrick Bourne??
You hated Hollins when we signed him too. If we draft an X like Bell or Hurst, we are all set.

Bell or Hurst/Doubs/Williams/Boutte/Hollins.

I would like to draft a Slot guy too - R6.

8/11 for 124 yards a 1TD in one playoff game this year

meanwhile diggs was

14/20 for 110 yards and 1 TD in 4 playoff games this year.

So that's a positive at least.

Completely ignore that 2 of the 3 Patriots play-offs games were impacted by weather. Also ignore that all 4 games were against top 10 defenses compared to Chicago, who was the 23rd ranked defense.

Here' comes the Romeo Dobbs is better and he Never cracked 800yds. We know who held DJ Moore back Josh Allen won't: that We will see.
At this moment, would you rather have Alec Pierce or DJ Moore?

If the Pats offered a 5th the Colts aren’t going to take a 6th out of spite because McDaniels decided to not take the job 5 years ago
