Player Signing FB Incoming! Patriots sign Reggie Gilliam

If they're looking to one for one replace Diggs' production out of the slot, Wan'dale Robinson is worth a look as a slot. He'd be your typical high volume slot here in McDaniels' offense like he was in Daboll's last year. A guy like Pierce would have and a guy like Doubs would be a more traditional outside X receiver, pushing Boutte primarily to Z and KWilliams/Hollins/Douglas/Chism giving you different flavors of slot receiver. So it wouldn't have been as one for one as Wan'dale Robinson would be.

I would need a cleanup crew in here if we got Robinson.

I would have loved it if he could also catch. It will be really risky for a defense to stunt or runblitz with Henderson following him up the middle.

People whining about this signing, don’t truly understand football and the impact he could have.
Is there really much whining?

Even amongst casual fans it seems Pardon My Take's constant fullback love has even wiped out casual/young fans complaining about fullbacks. It's lowkey a beloved position now

What kind of clean up??

Just draft Branch out of GA in the 2nd of that’s the play. Bigger and far more explosive . Less $$

The problem there is that you're paying a lot for a guy who would only play like half the snaps last year of Diggs' usage was any indication. So for half the game he's not contributing, compared to spending on your outside WRs that can play in any formation.

Pats may have used slots a lot in the past, but they never actually paid a ton for them. Amendola got a nice deal but it was a step down from what Welker got that they let him leave for. Welker was relatively cheap when we traded for him, Brown was never expensive. Edelman was as much a Z receiver as he was a slot too.

Draft is an option too but we have $50M+ in cap space so makes sense to sign some good players somewhere. They aren't just going to sit on that much cap.

Agree there isn’t much, just the select few combined on here and Twitter or whatever it’s called now.

My point is Branch is much better than Robinson who is Pop’s size

He also could be a bust. And you said take him in the 2nd... what if someone moves up for him? It's difficult to just pencil in a guy you're going to get that far down the draft board and automatically assume what he'll do as a rookie.

It's not a great spot to be in to be counting on a guy contributing day 1 and needing a certain spot. They have $50M in cap space so I expect them to fill all their roster holes with viable NFL starters and then supplement in the draft. Wan'dale may not be a target, but I'd be shocked if they don't add some type of viable starting receiver somewhere.

Problem there is Drake is AWFUL at sneaks

We haven’t really done him any favors. I believe Most qbs who do this well are thicker or have a tank behind him to push him forward. The one we attempted against denver that barely made it had rham pushing him, poor design

They measure athleticism every year at the combine and at pro days…. but you’re right, that’s just science.
And what were Lampe's results? Feel free to post them.. OH WAIT. You can't. Because he wasn't a Combine invite. You only have his Pro-Day numbers.

Here.. Let me help you out.

Bench - 22
Vertical - 34"
Broad - 9'04
3 Cone - 4.4
Shuttle - 7.43.

He didn't run the 40.

For reference purposes -
Develin -
Bench -39
Vertical - 28
Broad - 8'8
3-cone - 4.55
Shuttle - 7.25
40 - 5.03

Jakob Johnson -
Bench - DNP
Vertical - DNP
Broad - DNP
3-Cone - 4.51
Shuttle - 7.49
40 - 5.15

Vontae Leach
Bench - 21
Vertical - 31
Broad - 8'9"
3-Cone - 4.54
Shuttle - 7.56
40 - 4.87

The combine also doesn't predict how good a player will be. It just a series of tests. Vontae Leach was one of the better fullbacks in the NFL from 2006-2013. Not that facts matter to you.

I watched every snap that kid had. He will not be a bust.

I DO want them to spend $$. But on a big body WR.
