Well they had one who seemed to have promise but he ended up on IR.

Makes sense. A lot of people want a blocking TE, but I like the idea of getting that from a FB instead and signing a move TE to fill some of the route tree vacated by Diggs' release. It's obviously best if you can have guys who do everything well but sometimes you have to be able to go to different personnel groupings for different things.
 
Lampe was never the guy.

Gilliam’s most consistent contribution comes on special teams, where he plays over 76–83% of snaps, one of the highest rates on the team. He is a core performer across all units, making impactful tackles, serving as a lead blocker on kick returns, and creating turnovers. In 2023, he forced a fumble on an opening kickoff and recovered another later in the season, earning AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
 
My son can’t use his phone in school. He’ll be PISSED by the Gillam signing. He doesn’t grasp the love those of us over 40 have for a fullback.
