Stefon Diggs Has Been Cut. Clear Draft Implications.

I do think we can get away without drafting a WR if we sign Pierce.

WR 1 - Pierce (backed up by Hollins)
WR 2 - Boutte (backed up by Williams)
Slot - combination of Douglas, Chism, Williams, Hollins.

There's no desperate need for an additional WR there.
There is room to draft a Slot guy in Day 3 (R4 to R6).

I am hopeful for Kanak, a short athletic TE, who showed instincts to find gaps in zone coverage.

Why isn't he a Vrabel guy? I read the opposite. I read that Pierce is team-first, loves to block as a WR, and is a real grinder in the off-season.

He is a Vrabel guy. Just because his strength is getting vertical doesnt mean he doesnt bring toughness.

On top of what you say, he played on ST(not returning the ball) on college and even moved from WR to LB during bowl prep as a freshman. Team first, willing to take on LB duties(even in the short term), and was also Academic All American.

Hes as Vrabel as a WR can get.

If Hollins is #1 on the field, then opposing defenses can stack the box, because the Pats are 100% running the ball. I love me some Hollins,. but he's no where near WR1 level. He's best suited in the role they had him in last season.

If they get Pierce, and that's a huge if, there there's no desperate need. If they miss out on Pierce, then that need becomes a little more desperate. I think there's good plan Bs and Cs available this year, regardless of what the cultists will say. If I am GM, I'm making a pitch for Pierce to be sure, but I am not going to be held hostage if Doubs, Robinson, Jennings or even Shaheed are still out there. I don't hate on a plan that nets Robinson and another weapon, say Gainwell or Otton.

Long way to go before they roll out footballs in July for camp.

I like Hollins playing in the slot on 11 formation running plays. He adds more blocking than Diggs did but you still have 4 receivers on the field so it doesn't have to be a running play.

It’s a good point however after signing Milton Williams some were concerned that he wasn’t a starter in Philly how would he handle the workload of a starter. I’m guessing if Pierce is given the opportunity to have 70 to 80 catches he’ll be up for it, now with that said I wouldn’t pay him 30 million a year.
Asking Pierce to catch 70-80 passes is a square peg in a round hole, IMO. He's not that guy. That's not his game. He's arguable the premier deep ball receiver in the league. If you take a guy who does that and scale it up to elite volume like 70-80 catches/year then you're talking about a Randy Moss type player. That's not realistic. You have to accept him for what he is. He is not the guy who's going to get you tons of volume overall. He is a deep threat who will get solid volume for those type of routes and in the process free up your underneath receivers for the volume type routes.

His response was the opposite.

Just remember who the QBs were during his career. When they finally get a somewhat decent QB in Daniel Jones, Pierce had his first 1,000 yard season. And he also was not the #1 target, Pittman and the TE Warren were the guys who got 100+ targets.

If the Pats get him, he’ll be the #1 target. We will know by Monday afternoon (the negotiation window opens) if he’s a Patriot. I’d like to see the Pats add Shaheed as well, as a good #2 or #3 receiver who’s a great kick returner as well with elite speed.

Can you imagine Pierce & Shaheed ? Geez, the speed added to the offense would be amazing.
Pierce may not have been the #1 target of the QB but he was the #1 target of the defenses. He's the guy they moved coverages for. Just the nature of a deep threat is that it's lower volume. The coverage he was drawing opened up room underneath for Pittman and Warren. Football is a team game and not all contributions show on the stat sheet. He might not have the volume of catches himself, but he contributes to those guys having room to catch that volume of passes. That's the game he plays and what you should be using him for if you sign him, IMO.

I think that I may be in the minority here in thinking pierce may not be a vrabel guy because I really don’t see the problem with what he said. I took it that if he gets a big contract then it only makes sense that his targets should go up to justify his contract, which makes sense if he’s getting a big number contract. And I don’t see the problem with him saying he would want to be more involved in the quick and short pass plays because Indy he really was limited to deep balls.i really took it that he wants to contribute in more ways to help the team.

And I do think that if the team is able to come away with brown or pierce, they still need some talent to play in the slot. I like pop Douglas and Chism but it really seemed late in the season they had nobody besides Hollins, diggs, and Henry to work over the middle when the deep balls weren’t there.

Pierce went on the Up and Adams show, and although I do not see him saying he is is a Vrabel guy, he indicated that he is looking for a young QB and a winning culture. I think that is what the Pats have, and why would he go on the Patriots centric Up & Adams show if he was not interested in signing with the Pats? What am I missing?

I agree. Pop is more of a specialty WR, and Chism does not impress me (I could be wrong). I think the Pats will draft a Slot WR on Day 3.

Cyrus Allen. Kendrick Law. Deion Burks if he lasts.

DeZhaun Stribling can probably play all 3 spots.

Omar Delps or Jaren Kanak as a big slot/Hybrid TE.
