Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
Word on Reddit is that Diggs just unfollowed the Patriots on Instagram. Tough decision by their F/O, if they are releasing him, but it makes the most sense long term.

That really sucks for us. What's the plan now?

I just posted in another thread. Something is up.

He's already their slot WR as he can't play the outside anymore.

In terms of asking for a pay cut, it's not going to happen. Diggs took a chance on coming to a 4-13 team and caught for 1,000 yards. While I don't like his cap number, this is what the Pats agreed to pay him in year 2. It would be a terrible look for the Pats to either ask for a pay cut or cut a guy when it's time to pay him after he put up a solid season statically one year removed from the ACL tear. The optics would not be good when recruiting other FA's.

Pats are going to have to pay him this season and look for his replacement for 2027 in the meantime.
They don’t have to give him a pay cut to restructure his current deal to open up cap space. Diggs only has a little time left in the league. If he wants to win a ring he’ll play ball. Players don’t care how they get paid, only that they get paid.

The Pats have a lot of flexibility because Drake only takes up 3% of the annual salary cap hit. They can afford some extravagance now, like two highly paid WR’s or other big additions this offseason. They shouldn’t grossly overpay and mortgage the future, but their high profile season should make it easier to recruit big name talent.

Of course theyll start with asking for a first but eventually he’ll go for a 2nd. Id be interested if we can’t land pierce
Perry mentioned on Monday that likely we have been in talks with Philly... and it's going to come down to compensation.. I wouldn't be the least but suprised if the eagles want a player in return.. Vrabel should offer a 2nd and a 5th plus pop Douglas...

Diggs is pissed. Something is going on. See the posts above.

Agreed.. can you help me to understand something.. he's Guranteed 6M if on the roster by March 13... as Perry reported at the combine the team is weighing his legal situation outcome wich is supposed to be around the same date...

But wolf's already said he's informed by the teams security and legal team of what's transpiring with him.

What is the issue with the team paying him his 2026 salary?

In all honesty.. Diggs also plays a part in this too as he created the off field situation first himself.. I truly believe that's the hold up.. but again guy was productive and has a great report with Drake.. hope we can keep him..

My guess is that the team doesn't want to be on the hook for at least $6M if it turns out later his legal situation doesn't go in Diggs' favor. There's probably other things we don't know going on behind the scenes. Maybe AJ Brown is picking up steam or Alec Pierce getting to FA are making the Pats think whether they really want to pay Diggs.
I’m not up on the gossip but apparently that has to do with Cardi B.
He has unfollowed the Pats on social media which is what triggered the gossip. We'll find out soon.

Restructure. Doesn't have to be a pay cut. And after diggs was on a boat with pink cocaine and allegedly strangled a chic id say he did not hold up to his end of the bargain. And he was playing a lot of X and Z last year not someone id say was a slot tho he did get reps there too.

Restructuring still means he's getting his money one way or another. The question is whether the Pats want to pay him at this point.

He may have "lined up outside" initially, but we rarely saw him catch passes along the boundaries. It seemed like the majority of his passes were caught in the middle of the field.

Ah.. makes total sense!!! Well next week FA officially opens up so the team will have to make a decision by March 13.. I'm expecting either his realease, restructuring by at least that date.. if he's on the roster by then it's a sure bet he remains...

I'd rather sign Pierce than AJ Brown. Much younger, ascending, great character.
Pierce is hitting the FA market - asking $24M/yr. x 4 (according to Lazar)
He's so much more worthwhile than another unknown risk of a draft pick.

Pierce (X), Boutte (X, Z), Diggs (Z, Slot), Williams (Z), Hollins (X, Y), Chism (Slot)

Pop is gone. Jiles & Webb on PS. Potential 3rd/4th round flyer on WR

That's a rip off.

Look, we need to develop our guys. Remember, Welker, Edelman and Troy Brown did nothing in the NFL until their 5th year. Douglas has shown signs that he can become a Troy Brown for us.

No he hasn't I think I Chism is going to surpass him. Pop hasn't develop in that Slot Receiver I hope he would. I hope they Trade him for a 7th on Draft Day. This is his Fourth year in the league I don't think there's more to him.

Oh most certainly!! He can.. pop made some huge plays this season but he's not a traditional slot I believe he can be dynamic with the ball in his hands.. getting the "guy" mixed in with everything else we have Henderson, Boutte, Williams, Henry at TE takes this offense to another level.. we need the guy in the offense so everyone else has favorable match ups..
