I would've preferred Gym Shorts, but it seems like Vereen had no choice.

All the "high-ranking" roles above DC have already been filled. He is not becoming our new HC or GM. I don't consider an assistant HC to be anything more than a title in name only.
Title in name only was what it was always going to be for Williams. "Assistant Head Coach" or "Advisor."

His health precludes anything else which is a real shame. I am sure he will have some really good insight to bring to the team however.

I think this is the compromise we all wanted. Keep Coach T on as someone to help advise Kuhr but at his own speed without the possibility of losing Kuhr to someone who needs a capable DC.

Pretty cool when guys that hardly anyone knows step in and become instant game-changers. Love it for Kuhr.
Hope he sticks for a while.
What I'm curious about is the 3-headed dud at OL coach. We thought Marrone & crew were doing great things, but it seemed that almost everybody regressed down the stretch. Vrabes might need to clean that up.

If Kuhr gets a HC job in 2 years, Williams can probably step right in seamlessly as DC.

That's the best overall scenario since it means 2 years of our defense being awesome enough for our DC to get poached. And we maintain a high level of continuity despite the poaching.

This was the best possible outcome given the unique situation we had last year. It was clear Williams needed something less stressful to his health and it was equally clear Kuhr was a capable DC.

Robert Kugler already left for Pittsburgh.

I like the continuity here. Keep the staff, add guys as needed. Good stuff.

I am not sure you can put it ALL or even MOSTLY on coaching. Sure there was some stuff, …..Wilson staring down his blockee was seriously bad coaching & self-scouting. But I would mostly attribute the falloff to two factors….

1. LOONNGG Season: 2 rookies on the line /also with injuries we’re playing essentially TWO BACK-BACK seasons (college -what they were used to) & the other Vets (some getting old in tooth.. Moses) were playing more games than ever before as well. Not getting the bye & playing 4 playoff games was NOT HELPFUL.

2. INCREMENTAL DECIPHERING OF VULNERABILITIES: This probably biggest one.
They faced multiple very GOOD Defenses at end of season, starting with Ratbirds & all through playoffs. Teams scouting you tend to look heavily at last 6 games. I believe that Seahags were able to look at how each one of those good Ds attacked them and were able to piecemeal the Intel from each of those games to get a holistic killer plan. Especially looking at the 3 playoff Defenses we faced likely provided them a lot of ammo.

For me, The Wilson thing & not throwing Brown (or possibly also Lowe) into the mix in 2d half of SB are really the two coaching things. But you have no idea if Vrabes was against it or no one even brought it up (switching players out). So I don’t think you can outright blame Marrone.

Kuhr deserved the promotion. Glad Big T is staying with the org and can serve as an advisor to Kuhr when needed.

I think it really was a health thing. Half of winning the post-season is not getting tired and worn out.

Seems reasonable all-'round. Wiiliams, after all, is an unproven DC; Kuhr is a proven one.
