Solomon Thomas on the Trade Block for Draft

He's under contract for $3 million this year and $4.3 next year. For a low round pick, may be worth a flyer......

interesting, if they are shopping, maybe they are looking for the best offer, as what they have gotten up to now is the equivalent of a sack of rocks.

He sucks.

They still owe us for fleecing us in the Jimmy G deal.
Pats were fleeced only if you think there was a better deal to be had and Jimmy is a durable, franchise QB

Shanahan/Lynch admitted they were prepared to give up more but BB said give us a 2nd and we’ll call it a day.

Of course they said that. Why would they say anything else?

Would rather have Solomon Grundy

I don’t think it was cool they said that.
Agree. It was bush league.

In SF you have a 1st time GM and a 1st time HC who need to show how great they are at negotiating. By saying they got Jimmy for "only" a 2nd from the great BB makes them look good but also makes them look insecure....

My belief is in the hours leading up to the deadline, Bill had some formal (formal being the key word) deals he was entertaining. All of them were ~2nd rounders (despite what the Browns say). Bill was weighing division, conference, pick location and yes, a good situation for Jimmy. I'm sure SF expected Bill to counter and perhaps contemplated giving up a 1st but in Bill's estimation he didn't want to take that risk so he pulled the trigger. Whatever.

So, to recap: the Pats essentially turned pick No. 43 and, with help from their No. 63 pick, turned it into cornerback Duke Dawson, linebacker Christian Sam, Chicago’s second-round pick in 2019 and Detroit’s third-round pick in 2019.

This for a player that missed the entire season. I think "fleeced" is a bit much.
Plus the fact that he was a descending asset who would have been able to walk out the door for nothing but a POSSIBLE comp pick 6o picks BELOW what they got.

They also were patting themselves on the back when they jumped in front of the Saints to take Ruben Foster. They also said they would’ve taken him 2nd overall before trading with the Bears.

Now they want to trade a guy they just took third overall in the draft two years ago and has done absolutely nothing for them.

This a very important draft and season for Lynch and Shanahan.

The pressure is on Jimmy G/9ers regime this year.

I think you're missing the forest for the trees by just shrugging JG off as some "player that missed the entire season" as if injuries aren't a part of the sport and he's just another guy

It was one of the dumbest injuries since Bill Gramatica. The game was out of reach and he’s running around like John Elway in SuperBowl 32.

Would rather have Solomon Grundy

Superhuman strength and stamina
Virtually indestructible and with tremendous healing ability
Something like 9 feet tall
Is not going to age out of the league

I'm on board with him at DT. BB will just have to keep him in line.

Sorry, not trading valuable draft assets for a guy who will be dead in a week. Below are his combine stats.

Solomon Grundy,
Born on a Monday,
Christened on Tuesday,
Married on Wednesday,
Took ill on Thursday,
Grew worse on Friday,
Died on Saturday,
Buried on Sunday,
That was the end,
Of Solomon Grundy

People in here acting like Bill didnt fleece the 49ers for Trent Brown...

So far he is just another guy and one that seems injury prone.

The key reason why SF was the destination is because of Hoyer. The only way to move JG at that point was to have a backup QB available who they could project to be a fit. The 49ers played ball and released him eating his entire signing bonus which in turn gave us a chance to sign him for peanuts (prorated 400k in 17' + 950k 18').

Go around the league and check how much backup QBs with the same experience as Hoyer are making.

In essence we got the 2nd round pick + saved about 8m in cap space with that trade in the last two years. There is no way BB trades JG away without securing a backup QB first.

And again this is not about being able to carry the team in case of a catastrophic injury to Brady. But not to throw the season if he were to miss a series or 3-4 games.

He's been a bit of a disappointment for the Niners but he had all the top of the first round measurables (IIRC) coming out. I guess this why its good to have all those comp picks in the draft, though I think this is a trade you save for tomorrow. I wouldn't make it if we draft a Tillery, Simmonds, or Lawrence.
Just in case you might not have know, he has been dealing with the death of his sister to suicide last year. They were very close. He was devistated.
Lot of things flying around in that young mans' head.
A move to New England away from the west coast might be an elixer.
I think he is a quality kid and is still under developed. He needs a winning atmosphere and puposeto move on.
