The Superbowl Rewatch thread: the great defensive duel

So as long Hogan stopped, and then the ball was snapped immediately it would be ok provided he was the only one moving? Is it because he's facing forwards he needs to do so? If he's moving laterally or going the opposite direction, it's ok to not set?

Right. The only instance in which you can be in motion at any given time is when you're running lateral to, or away from the line of scrimmage.

This was a GREAT Super Bowl. Not just because the Patriots won, but because it was a low-scoring defensive struggle and not another Chiefs-Rams basketball game, which is what Goodell and the league wanted. It offered great drama; I'm glad that casual fans and millennials were bored by the lack of scoring.

Live, very true - re-watching, not so much. And let's truthful here, mostly everyone wants a shootout. :)

Look, I get what you're saying about the masterful defensive show put on by both teams, but 8 punts in a row by the Rams, no matter how good it was for the Patriots' fans watching, did not make for a very exciting game. Highlight reels are normally filled with scoring plays, as well they should be as it's how the game is won. Years from now, when highlights of this game are shown, it'll be Gronk's catch, Michel's run and a few field goals.

And BTW - I still haven't deleted the Chargers or Chiefs playoff games. Those are so fun to re-watch. :D

So what? I like the highlights of my team hoisting the Lombardi.

What happened in the Super Bowl was good for the game. But that’s just my worthless opinion.

And as previously noted, even if players are running laterally to or away from the LOS, only one player can be in motion at the snap in the NFL.

I was hoping someone had a way to show us the plays I mentioned because they looked like they were not called correctly.

For me high scoring games are not better games and highlight reels are for casual fans. At its base level what is great about football is the competition, and the battle. Having a win and WR make a flashy play is what gets people’s attention but what happens in the trenches is where football really lives.
A low scoring game involves many clutch plays that could determine the game, and if the defense makes them that’s just as exciting as if the offense does, IMO.
The worst thing that ever happened to the sport IMO is the phenomenon where the rule changes have teams allowing a score with 30 seconds left and having a legitimate chance to score in 30 seconds. It diminishes the value of making plays rather than enhancing it IMO.

OK. So the whole game is up on YouTube:

The first play is here (1:41:56) and I can see that Gronk is slow to get down in his stance and that Hogan is already moving so I guess that was it.

Here is the second play which starts around 2:05:24. Here you can clearly see 2 players moving before the first one is set:

Shortly after this, the right tight end starts to shift and I don't think either of the other motion players have stopped moving.

First eight possessions of the Rams a punt -- I will never complain about that it was awesome. Now if our offense had thrown up a few 6s in that time span I also wouldn't complain, but it was a great nail biter regardless.

I just wanted to say my favourite drive of the game was the clock killing drive that started at the 4 yard line and lead to a Ghost FG. Run, Run, Run the whole time. Freaking awesome! Loved that drive. :)
