In Meyer’s defense, there were police investigations where they didn’t bring forth charges, so there was certainly some “he said/she said” stuff going on.

Where Meyer screwed himself was at the press conference when he denied having any prior knowledge and then went a step further, stating that it was “shoddy journalism” and people making things up. The reporter who broke the story has gone on an attacking style of digging for dirt because he feels slighted, and perhaps rightfully so.

As for Zack Smith, he just seems like another douchebag who cheated on his wife and then paid the price when she set him up for dropping the kid off at her house, which is how this all started to begin with. Interestingly enough, even her own mother disputes her story and has cut all ties with her. She came public with that news this week.

I’m not sure, Tune. All I’m really worried about is whether or not they lose their head coach, which would be a big loss to say the least.

I haven’t read much of the “news” from today regarding the sad sack pervert/possible wife beater named Zack Smith. I’m saving that torture for later after I’ve taken my nightly pain pill.

I don't know what's considered "proper" or PC from the standpoint of evaluating Meyer's involvement with this sad/bizarre situation, but is it really something he justifiably could lose his job over? I suppose it depends on how much he really knew about Smith's behaviors, but still ...

Urban Meyer could use a lesson from buddy Bill Belichick on how to handle the media, that’s for sure. Had Meyer chosen to go the route that Bill would’ve taken (“I’m not going to comment on another coach’s personal matters”), he could have avoided this drama.

Instead, not only did he lie to the reporter (but not to the athletic director, who he had shared the info with), but he also finished his statement and then began another one which started with “I don’t know who would make something like that up. It’s just poor journalism.” Everyone knew who he was referring to, and that reporter (Brett McMurphy) has come HARD at Meyer and the program, ever since.

There’s a lot of parts to this ridiculous story. A cheating husband who is obviously tremendously immature and also into some weird sex stuff. A wife who promised revenge and baited him into having to drop the kid off at her house by not showing up to the agreed upon drop off point. Multiple police investigations which never produced any court dates or punishment. An embarrassed reporter who felt belittled and has done everything to come back and ruin the reputation of the coach who talked slick. A head coach who thought that it was better to give his friend and employee the benefit of the doubt. Etc, etc.

At the end of the day it sounds like Meyer is possibly guilty of some poor judgment by deferring to the court system during a time when domestic issues are at a heightened focus, as well as lying to a reporter during a press conference, but I don’t believe that he should be fired—no.
