Howe: Amendola Market Heating Up

His numbers are fairly pedestrian over his time here but his impact on this team has been very strong, with countless clutch catches/plays and a positive team first attitude, even in the face of the some frustrating times.

If he bounces for more money I'll be happy for him, although I would like him to stay and finish out in NE as he has proven IMO to be a great Patriot.

I agree.

Danny Amendola is 5th all-time in career receptions in the Super Bowl.

Amendola is 4th among all active receivers in post-season receptions, tied with Larry Fitzgerald, and 7th in receiving yards.

Amendola is 9th among active players in career punt return yards.

Amendola is clutch. Big Papi clutch. Any team on the cusp of a playoff run would benefit by having him in the locker room.

Danny "playoff" Amendola? Doesn't make much sense to leave for more money from a team that might not be guaranteed make it to the playoffs. He won't get a chance to shine.

If he leaves I hope it won't because his chick wants to be closer to home or her career. Money I get.

Hopefully Dunkin Donuts or Papa Ginos gives this photogenic man some extra money to stay in New England.

I hope he gets the option to stay. Clutch as anything, especially in the Super Bowl (didn’t realise just how good all his SB specific stats were).

If anything, his main problem is Edelman being back on the team (allowing for the fact we don’t yet know what version of Edelman we’ll be getting back). What will they realistically pay for him to be the bottom of the depth chart and back up to the player who is actually first in active receivers post season receptions and post season yards and 7th in active career punt return yards?

Amendola was clutch as anything in SB51 too and they still cut his salary. Really interested to see what money he gets this year if he stays. Can’t believe it will be anywhere near 4 to 5M a year. I hope for his sake I’m wrong on that...

Insecurity about the health of Edelman and Mitchell might be the best reason for re-signing Amendola at a decent increase in guaranteed money.

What indication have we ever received that Amendola wants to play anywhere else? Any reports that he is going to get big money elsewhere just feels to me like clickbait.

I would like to keep him. He has earned a raise he took a cut to stay with the Pats. Edelman will be returning but not sure of the effect his injury will have on him. Amendola, Edelman and Brady are close, that positive for staying. Pay him market price and let him finish his career with the Pats.

History?

Unless a player states they want to do anything to stay here then I'd say the only rational assumption we should make is that they're going to be looking for the best deal.

I think something in the ballpark of market value should get it done. Amendola seems to be the kind of player who prefers to stay here, as long as there’s a competitive offer.

Hopefully they don’t get cute and lowball him to an extreme.

He's a hero in NE. Why move and be a scrub somewhere else.

Being a football hero doesn't pay the bills. He's not getting any younger. The more money he makes now the easier his life will be down the road.

The point is that Danny will likely leave if the team lowballs him, and he could get double the compensation elsewhere. I do NOT expect this to happen. As Amendola as indicated. he understand that the NFL is a business. What this means to ME is the Amendola understands that the team might decide to move on from him, by making an lowball offer to our #5 WR.

Just like he has when they cut his pay the last two times, right?

I get lots of lulz at posters asserting what any player is likely to do, when their only basis for their opinion is projecting their own imagination.

I think Danny would be likely to retire rather than move on. What makes your opinion more credible than mine?

He could have made that decision in each of the last 3 years when he had to take a paycut or be cut.

I agree. He wants to stay.

However, I believe that he will be offered more money this year since he was healthy all year.

Danny has banked a cool $17.4M over the past five years with the Pats, been to the SB three times and has two rings, will show up on SB highlight reels for years to come, is turning 33 this year and has a moderately attractive young gf (!).

So, his choices are:
1) re-up with the Pats for one more SB run
2) sign for "big money" (whatever tf that means) with a team that may not even sniff the playoffs
3) retire and follow the SI Swimsuit Edition photoshoot crew around scenic tropical locales for the next couple years

If it was me .... ;)

SF has $77 mm in cap money available and Jimmy G. Me thinks they might throw a few extra $ Danny's way (that said, they also have a good young slot receiver that Jimmy likes).

If I were SF I would over spend for DA and DLewis. I know they have a good spot receiver but they have so much cap space I would over spend a touch to give Jimmy some guys he's familiar with.

I'd also over spend to get him a top WR and/or TE on the market.

(over spend as needed obviously not just for the sake of it)
