After all the **** he took for getting rid of that bum Cutler, McDaniels would have to have balls of steel to go into Indy and push a Luck trade from the get-go. I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but the optics would be pretty rough to handle in your first year. But, if there is still uncertainty with Lucks shoulder, and you’ve got a guy in the draft that you are in love with, you make that pick. Sit Luck till he heals up and then trade ‘em. Before drafting any qb though, you might want to get that oline fixed.
I guess it depends on how recently hired GM Chris Ballard handles the fallout and whether he will take responsibility for the decision not to gamble on Luck making a complete recovery.
Agree OLine neeps help but with #3 pick they could always trade down and still get the best tackle in the draft.
If as you suggested they play Luck and then trade him but he continues to under perform then his asking price continues to drop.
Play into many as 10 teams desperation to upgrade their QB position this off-season creating a trading frenzy,
