Kind of surprised here. Has anyone heard of Ty being officially released by the Chiefs yet and if so, it's kind of surprising that we haven't heard anything about him yet.

Mike Reiss made a good point in his mailbag that even if Ty Law is not the same player he was and is willing to take a pay cut this year, after Asante's deal we still may not be able to afford him.

I mean, it would be nice, but as lots of said, it's doubtful that he still has the speed to play CB, and we have James Sanders, Rodney Harrison, and Brandon Merriweather all doing a good job at the safety positions.

How much money would you want to lay down for Ty at this point? And would he take it?

he is not an official free agent yet. hes still a Chief.

What Samuel got is irrelevant - what other teams are willing to offer him is all that matters; and whether the Patriots are even interested in him.

At this point in his career, he's already milked the cow and got his cash. Based on how he was selling himself to the Pats, one would think he would come here at some kind of a discount.

What Samuel got is irrelevant -

I don't think it is, and neither does our favorite columnist.

As Reiss said, Law can theoretically say "I'm half the player Samuel is at this point. I deserve half the money."

I mean, Randall Gay is getting $4.5 million a year now, right?

The speed = Ty law speed.

ty was sooooooo slow last 2 yrs lol atleast in the games i saw DL guys were faster sometimes.

I don't care what Reiss thinks about it - if the best offer he gets is, say, $1.5M then what Randall Gay got doesn't matter. Law either plays for what he's offered or retires.

That's my point, though. If a team is willing to offer our nickelback that kind of money, you really think Law is only going to see an offer for 1.5?

My real question is still on the table:

How much would you pay for him?

Do you think that at this point in his career he is an upgrade from Randall Gay?

To answer my own question, I probably wouldn't go over $2,000,000 for the year and think even that is possibly too expensive. I also consider him about on par with Gay.

I agree - if someone offers it he'll take it. I don't think anyone will though. A 26 year old CB vs. a 34 year old CB . . .

He's off the books for the Chiefs per NFLPA.org. So it appears he was officially released sometime this week.

He made close to $12M in two years with the Chiefs. We offered him up to $11M for the same two years. I think we would offer him more than $2M per at this juncture. We paid Duane Starks $3.5M two years ago...

Bill's not going to sign him unless he thinks he can still play. And if he can, he'll get some coin at his position in this market. He says he BELIEVES he can still play at a high level, and he can play for another 3-4 years. If we offer him a 3 year deal he could see the end of with incentives that make it sound like we might just believe that too, maybe it gets done. I do think if they move on him they won't **** around like last time. He will either commit or they will finally close the book on Ty Law.

At this point in his life, Ty Law is obsessed with getting to the Hall of Fame. I think his time with the Jets and Chiefs, while did not harm his status, did nothing to further it either. He knows he needs 50 interceptions at the minimum to get in. Two superbowls are great (or is it 3?). Ending his career with a dominant team (with or without more SB's) will always be remembered when voting time comes.
Its my take that he signs for 2 to 3 mill a year for a two year deal.

The midpoint of those two doesn't seem unreasonable to me, as long as it's to short years. I think given the types of guys we have signed as CB depth the past few years, adding Law couldn't hurt at all. Especially if he can eventually move to safety. As I've said before, count me in.

Ty already has 52 int's.

Ty Law is not coming here ... Vince Wilfork is faster than Ty Law right now.

Guess again. Ty Law has become a mercenary and will sign with the highest bidder.
