Names that have been mentioned before but these are new references to our interest :

Linebacker Dan Morgan is getting lukewarm interest around the N.F.L. due to his injury history, but we are starting to hear now that the Patriots have lost out on Zach Thomas (Friday night at St. Elmo's Steakhouse the word was he was a Pat), they are toying with the idea of signing Morgan, if he is willing to play on a one year, incentive laden deal.

With Asante Samuel ready to steal a Brinks truck next Friday, the Patriots are now in discussions with the Philadelphia Eagles about acquiring Lito Shepard in a trade.

It also says we were interested in Derrick Smith who signed with SD

Re: Some Patriots stuff from draftdaddy

AWESOME FIND!

Thats some good stuff right there.

Re: Some Patriots stuff from draftdaddy

FYI Sheppard turns 27 in April.

His contract info: runs through 2011. He is scheduled to earn $2 million next season, $3 million in 2009, $3.7 million in 2010 and $4.25 million in 2011. Not sure about bonuses or incentives but he was reportedly unhappy and wanted to be traded.

It's a no-brainer for the 2nd round pick but I doubt that's enough.

He wants more money though no matter if hes traded or not.

Re: Some Patriots stuff from draftdaddy

I think Sheppard would want a new deal - which would be fine as long as it's reasonable. The Eagles' pick is #19, I bet we could get that pick and Sheppard for #7. And #19 would put us right in the thick of the deep CB class this year. Hobbs, Sheppard and, say, Cason could be our top three CB while still having the rest of our picks.

No way, no way. Why would this be a good deal for the Eagles? They would essentially just be trading up 12 spots in exchange for a pro bowl corner (former). We'd have to toss in something extra. Maybe a 2nd or 3rd on top of that.

If that deal were to happen though. Lito Shep and #19 for #7 that would be a ridiculous steal.

12 spots in a draft is a lot, depending, of course, if they really like someone. It sounds like they're ready to move on without him so I doubt it would take much more than that.

Re: Some Patriots stuff from draftdaddy

Yea I agree there's no way they do 19 and Shepp for 7.

Re: Some Patriots stuff from draftdaddy

According to the old draft value chart, the difference between the two picks is about the 30th overall pick in the draft. I think that's about what Sheppard is worth given that he'll want to be paid fairly well too. Now, the validity of the draft value charts is legitimate but if you think that value is right then I think the low #1 is about what Sheppard is worth.

Re: Some Patriots stuff from draftdaddy

this could be very interesting....I am sure there is going to be some trading going on...wait and see...

Re: Some Patriots stuff from draftdaddy

What's everybody's feeling on Sheppard. Are we eseentially getting a Samuel back? (eg. a good product of a system?)

Doesn't Tomase write for draftdaddy?

Re: Some Patriots stuff from draftdaddy

I'd swap firsts with the eagles and grab Sheppard in a second. IMO he's better than Asante anyways, and at a reasonable cost. If they Eagles are shopping him around because he doesn't like his contract, though, then I would assume that he still wouldn't like it once he got here.

Re: Some Patriots stuff from draftdaddy

I highly doubt Lito is as good as Samuel, but I'd take him. I think he would do well here.

Although, I don't know the veracity of this information. I refuse to believe the Patriots would EVER show interest in Derek Smith.

Some Patriots stuff from draftdaddy

Great find! (actually I just left the draft forum to post this )

IMO, the best resource for daily draft happenings on the net. And these rumors are from NFL insiders who are gathered at the Combine. I'd tend to believe in most of them (not all) -- because they're NOT media driven and originate from fairly credible sources.

Time to check some BB transcripts to see if he's had any kind words about Lito.

My take on it is that Asante is better in zone, Lito is better in man coverage. Overall, I'd tend to prefer Lito, though, to be fair, I've never been a huge Asante fan.

That may be true. I hope they're switching to a more aggressive coverage scheme, and Lito might be better for that transition.

Re: Some Patriots stuff from draftdaddy

Ok trade the 7th pick for lito, their 19th pick and a fourth round pick, yes i'd make them throw that in.
Trade the raiders original third for micheal huff,
Draft cromatorie, or however you spell it wit the 19th pick.
trade back up using both fourths if need be and use our second round pick to draft the corner from usf.
Secondary solved my friends.

Re: Some Patriots stuff from draftdaddy

We're not trading for Huff. We already have our starting FS.
