unhappy with his contract situation. He might demand Asante Samuel

money or refuse to report.

The Pats might have a bargaining chip if they re-sign Jabar Gaffney.

Jabar is Sheppard's cousin.

theyve been saying this all week. i cant wait for friday to see how many of these rumors come true. personally, id take sheppard, as long as its not for our 1st rounder. plus, he's been saying he wants a big contract if he's traded. i dont think we'll go there. but who knows, in b.b. we trust

last time a big name FA was linked to the eagles, it was lecharles bentley rumored to already have a deal with them, but it turned out he was only using them to up his contract offer from the browns.

i wouldn't be surprised if it's all just another smokescreen and some surprise team picks him up

Bentley was a FA at that point Shepard is not...so other teams picking him up would not happen...only can be traded for.

My take on it is that Asante is better in zone, Lito is better in man coverage. Overall, I'd tend to prefer Lito, though, to be fair, I've never been a huge Asante fan.

Only because he got away with mauling Moss. That won't happen for him in New England, where officials like to call phantom P.I. on Patriots cornerbacks, even when it's the cornerback getting interfered with by the receiver.

Lito is looking for more ca$h. Aquiring him will mean a new deal. I'd love to have him, but the compensation in both dollars, and picks, would have to be reasonable. I'd give our 2nd rounder & a later pick, but our first is untouchable in such a deal. I'm not sure I'd even swap firsts for Sheppard. I might, but I'd have to know what the contract would cost me, and also know that #7 isn't worth much to other teams, nor to me with respect to who would be there. If the Pats think Gholston will be there at #7 persay, and he rates real high to them, then swapping firsts might be a bad move. You have to wonder if one of the free agent CB's on the market, like Brian Kelly, Fernando Bryant, etc. would be better value versus the cost of trading/resigning Sheppard or Asante.

Huff has even said it himself that he does not want to play CB. He wants to be a safety and a FS at that.

Well that's unlikely to endear him to this staff. No player dictates what position he wants to play. Versatility is the name of the game. And attitude is central.
