I don't know of another NT in the league that plays in a 2-Gap system. I don't even know if the Jets use a true 2 gap system. I know that San Diego uses a one gap system. As does Pittsburgh.

Since you've limited the universe to a small number of teams employing 3/4 defense, he has a good chance of winning. Include it to any interior defensive linemen and he's not even in top 10.

That's just stupid. Sorry, but Wilfork is in the Top 5 for DTs.

Why don't you post your list that has Wilfork outside the top 10? Or are you just satisifed to flap your stupid trap and run away like a 2 year old?

We would argue that last year Jamal Williams was the best. This year he has not been nearly as dominant. I haven't seen enough of Wilfork to vote him in, but I'll be watching carefully on Sunday.

jill, change the xmas theme on your avatar. xmas is over and it's never xmas for a bills fan anyway.

Does it matter? Dwayne Robertson is d'bust on their DLine just like D'Brickashaw is d'bust on their OLine

I thought you said top 10? That's only 5. Can't you count?

Friggin loser. Wilfork had ONE PLAY where he didn't even touch the guy, and morons like yourself call him a dirty player. Next, you are going to tell me that Wilfork's sack of Big Ben was dirty.

It matters in that you limit the sample size even further because everyone knows you can't compare a 3-4 2GAP NT to a 3-4 1 Gap NT because they have different responsibilities. The 2 GAP being more complicated.

I think that Wilfork had his best season thus far in 2007. He is staying lower, not allowing himslef to be turned and anchoring better than ever.
Part of being a great 3-4 NT are the DE's and OLBs that play on the side of you. Good 3-4 DE"s and good pass rushing OLBs help limit the types of double teams the NT faces.

Last season Jamal Williams benefited greatly from playing in Wade Phillips scheme that allowed the DE's and OLBs to attack. Even this year in Dallas, the Phillips defensive scheme made Ratliff look like an above average NT. Put Ratliff in our scheme and he's JAG.

The fact that our scheme is read and react up front and add in that we went half the year without Seymour and half the year with a less than healthy Seymour and no Colvin, and in my mind, Wilfork was hands down the best 3-4 NT in the NFL this year.

Hmmm, launching himself into JP Losman and delivering a direct elbow shot on his knee not dirty? Hmmm, league thought so and fined him.

Don't tell me, now you'll say it never happened and wasn't cheating. Just like Spygate.

Hmmmm ....

WOW. Talk about HOMER glasses. Wilfork did NOT launch himself into JP Losman. In fact, if you'd actually watched the game, you'd have seen Wilfork getting taken down from behind by a Bill's O-lineman and the momentum took him into Losman. And if you actually followed the Bills, you'd know that even though Losman's initial reaction was that Wilfork tried to hurt him, before the second game Losman recanted his statement and said that Wilfork didn't intentionally go for his knee.

Oh, while Wilfork was fined, he appealed and won. The proof was in the game tape.

As for "SpyGate", that was a fabrication by the media. While the Pats DID film from the sidelines, it was a rule they broke. They did not cheat. And that is directly from the words of Roger Goodell. The guy who levied the sanctions.

You clearly aren't as smart as you think you are Buffalo_Jill. You can't count. (10 does not equal 5) and you are seriously misinformed.

i agree, he's become the #1 player on defense other teams need to account for and game plan against. especially with colvin out.

As others have mentioned, Jamal Williams is superb. He was hurt mostly this year. CAsey Hampton of the Steelers is also very, very good.

IMHO Wilfork is right in the mix with those two. Either way, I count my blessings for having him, because he is a superb, absolutely terrific NT for us.

I would think Jamal Williams is still #1, but if Williams is #1, then Wilfork is like #1.5... it's that close.

Williams has been injured this year (and he's really old... lol), so he hasn't received as much attention this year. Both are a beast though and I wouldn't mind having either on my team.

Yes. The scheme difference also makes them a bit tough to compare. But I do think they are two of the best, and you can throw Hampton in there also.

Wilfork gets the nod for which one I'd rather have because he's much younger than the other two.

I'd give a very close nod to Casey Hampton this year. I'd put Jamal Williams slightly behind Wilfork this year. All three are Pro Bowl caliber. Are there any other 3-4 NTs?

If you add 4-3 DTs, I think the runaway winner this year is Haynesworth. The guy looked like Warren Sapp in his prime, or Reggie White when he played DT in 1986 & 1987.

Regards,
Chris

First of all like my esteemed poster collegue remarked thats only 5 not 10. second are you out of your friggin mind lady??!! Pat Williams is a fat idiot who lives on his size alone, Ngata is good but not there yet, Haynesworth is good and belongs there but Tommy Harris couldn't hold Wilfork's jock in this scheme or any other. Watch what the man does and you can plainly see that he would succeed in any scheme and would dominate in any. Its as plain as the fact of the Bills sucking. He is the best NT and Top 5 in DT's in the league

Agreed re: Hampton.

Jamal "Big Mac" Williams is the BEST nose-tackle in the league when healthy(PERIOD!)

Expect to be surprised on Sunday. I predict an increase in alcohol sales and domestic violence cases by 100% come Sunday evening in New England.

As a guy who seen the Wilfork shot on Lossman only on Youtube, it certainly looks like he took a cheap shot on him. I know you guys don't like that very much and I don't think he intentionally tried to take out his knee but he was def falling and threw his elbow out there to try to get a piece of Lossman. Also, the eye gouge was a little chicken ****, which was clearly intentional and attempt to cause harm.
Now, on to talent, Jamal Williams and Casey Hampton is certainly up there too and I think that JWill, CH, and VW are in a league of their own for 34 NT. Now, considering that CH is 3rd on the totum pole, IMO, and JWill has been hurt all year, I would consider VW the best in the league right now. Now, if JWill is healthy, he is the most dominante out of the three. Who seen the MNF game against the Steelers where JWill was being triple teamed all game and always found his way in the backfield. His size and his ability to use his hands and footspeed are just a tad better than VW. Now, I'm not sure that JWill will
EVER return to last years form because he's just been extremely banged up lately. I think that Brandon McKinney is going to be JWill's replacement when it comes time to retire but he has a WAYS to go until he's replaced.

But yes, VW is the best 34 NT in the game TODAY.
